a citizen of the United States, and a resiliti dent of Moline, in the county of Rock island and State of illinois, have made certain new and useful improvements in Vehicle-Curtains, of which the following is a specification. Y'

This invention relates to vehicle curtains, and-one of the principal objects thereof is to provide an improved manner of arrangement of automobile or other vehicle curtains including a manner and means of convenient and easy stowage of the curtains when the same are not in use, and means for quickly and easily swinging the curtains into position for service, and means for holding them in that position.

.With these and other objects in view, which will become apparent as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the construction, combination. and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying dra-wing inwhich like characters of reference indicate like parts throughout the figures, of which,

Referring more particularlyf to the drawing, 5 illustrates the forward central, 6 the rear centralY and 7 .the rear bow, respectively of an automobile or other vehicle top, and 8 the material ordinarily secured thereto, for forming the top.- y

To the curvature of each bow on the inside thereof is pivoted, by means of a screw eye 9, one end of an arm 10, the opposite end of whichis looped at' 11 through a metallic eye l2 secured inthe rea-r upper corner of a sidecurtain 3.3, said curtain providedl adjacent said eye-and below the same with a second eye 14 for enga-gement over a turn button l5 when the curtain is in position for service, as illustrated in Fig. l.

A spring hook 16 formed of wire or other suitable material' is secured tol each bow on y the inside thereof and below screw eye 9 in such position that when the curtains are down in position for use, the-arms l() may be engaged near their lower ends in said hooks for securely holding the upper rear corner of the curtains against the bow. Alas shown, the lower ends of the arms are bent as at 20 so as to bringethe upper edges of the curtains liat against the ,Sides of the bows,`

The buttons l5 on the forward central and rear centralv bows of the top, engage the rear portions of the front curtain A and the central curtain B respectively, and the turn button on the front central bow is also engaged through an eye 17 near the front edge of the central curtain B while the button on the rear central bow 6 similarly engages the front portion of the rear curtain C, the

turn button on the rear bow 7 engaging' the4 f nated bows, so that a curtain may be stowed on each of the three rear bows of the top, by means of straps 18 secured to the bows beneath the top in such position that when the curtains are swung transversely of the vehicle top, the arms l0 having been disengaged from hooks 16, the curtains may be rolled up and secured by means of the straps to the underside oi the bows as illustrated inv Fig. '2. In order to secure the curtains transversely of the carriage top previously to rolling said curtains, a turn button 19 is secured to the under side of each bow adjacent the fartherrnostI strap from the arin l0, said button adapted to engage the eye 17, inthe forward part of the curtain, connected tov that bow, as illustrated in Fig. 3, whereupon the curtain may be rolled up and stowed as described. By this construction it will be apparent that when the curtains are in position for service, the top edges thereof are securely held in position against the inside of the bows, in such a way that they could not be disturbed. by strong wind or by vibration of the vehicle from any cause, and that when not in use, the curtains may be quickly and conveniently stowed in an out of the way position.

Although l have described the preferred embodiment of my invention, lma-y desire to malte such changes in the construction, combination and arrangement of lirrarts inside curvature of the bow, an arm pivotally connected at one end to said screw eye and having aloop at its opposite end, a

' curtain having aeye in one corner in which 'said loop is engaged, ahook on the inside of the bow below the curvature to engage said arm when the curtain is in position for use, a turn button on said bow for holding the curtain against the bow below the hook, a pair of straps secured to the bow for holding the curtain to the underside thereof when the curtain has been'- rolled -up for' stowage and a turn button on the underside oi' the bow adjacent one of the straps, forvholding the curtain previously to rolling the same.

In a vehicle. top including a bow, an arm pivoted at one end to the curvature ofv the bow, a curtain carried by the arm, means carried by the bow -adapted to engage the aiin when inv one position for holding the curtaln in operative position, and. means carried by the bow adapted to engage the curtain when in inoperative position.

3. The combination with a bow, of an arm connected therewith, a curtain connected to said arm, means below the connecting point of the bow and arm for engaging said arm and holding the same and consequently said curtain against the bow when the curtain is in position for use, and nieans for stowing said curtain when the saine is not in use.

.4. The combination with a bow, of an arm piioted to the curvature thereof, a curtain c: nnected to one end of said arm, said arm adjacent last said end being bent to lie fiat against the bow when .the curtain is in position for service, and means for engaging said arm tc hold the same against said bow when the curtain is'4 in position for service.

lny a vehicle top, the combination with a bow of a curtain carrying bracket swinging between position for stowing the cui'- tain and position for using the same, and means for engaging said bracket to hold the saine against said bow when in last said position, for maintaining the curtainagainst the bow.
