by very simple and inexpensive means practical to employ with different kinds and sizes of figures, the very small as well as the larger sizes.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side viewofmy inventionapplied to the figure of a dog andshows a handin po sition for operating it. Fig. 2 is aview of the toy shown in Fig. 1 as itappears after the actuating, wire has been rotated one fourth of a revolution in one direction from the position shown in Fig. 1. The operators hand, the manipulating piece and the fine wire connection are omitted from this and the succeeding views. Fig. 3 is a view of the toy shown in Fig. 1 as it appears after the actuating wire has been rotated one half of a revolution in either direction from the position shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a view of the toy shown in Fig. 1 as it appears after the actuating wire has been rotated three fourths of a revolution in one direction, or one fourth of a revolution in the other direction from the position shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a view from the front of'the toy in the position shown in Fig. 1.
The figure portion of this toy comprises a fore part A, a middle part B and a hind part C.
The fore part A is provided with a head and supporting members and has a small round hole through it from front to back, this hole being central with a hemispherical joint-protuberance a at the back.
The middle part B is a short length of cylindrical thin-wall tubing of a diameter commensurate with the fore and hind parts.
The hind part 0 is provided with supporting members, a hemispherical joint protuberance 0 similar to that of fore part A and in the particular illustration herein shown, with a stub tail. There is also in the hind part C a small round hole passing from front to back centrally through the joint protuberance.v
The parts A, B and C are arranged in series onthe actuating wire D which is journaled in the holes in A'and G and passes freely through the hollow space of B. The a hemispherical protuberances of A and C fit into the open ends of B forming universal, ball and socket joints; and these parts thus jointed are held together by an eye. at the front and a flattening pinch at the back in the ends of thewire D, which wire becomes the actuating element for the figure parts by virtue of a slight bend al given it at about midway of its length between the joints. The wire D is connected at its eye end d with a fine flexible transmission wire E the other end of which is fastened in the eye 7 of a larger manipulating wire F adapted to be rolled between the thumb and finger to rotate or oscillate the. actuating wire D.
The toy should rest upon a display surface or medium on which it does not roll, but may freely slide on its supporting points, which are preferably made wide apart, whatever form they may take in the different figures to which this invention may be applied.

a plurally limbed figure-part, the'extremities of said limbs being relatively wide apartand adapted to slide and tolaterally support said figure-part, a body figure-part, and a crooked, :rotative actuating element engaging said limbed figure-part between' operating engagement with said actuating element; said figuresparts being disposed on a said actuating element in jointed operative relation.
8. In. a mechanical figure toy,,th'e combination of a unit part having head, shoulders. and supporting'members, a unit extremity part, means connecting "the said parts in jointed relation and rotary aetuating means substantia'lly as specified.
