Description
anoLPH Burien' AND `r.r r`n`u rrr. sALLAn'AYQor scro'roVrLL-n, como..A
Leners Patent-No. 111,036, met January 17, 1811.
The Schedulexefen-'ed to is; these Letters :Partanna4 part ol' the saine.
:To all wr'om t may concer-n Beit knownthat we, ADoL1lH BBAsu and'Lmrum. SALLADY, of. Sciotoville, in tlrecounty ofSc-ioto and State of Ohio, have invented anew and useful I rnprovementin Stearn]?cilers; anclwe do hereby de- -rlare .that the followingis 'a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same; reference being hadto the accompanying drawing forming part of thisA llepecication.
Figure 3 is a vertical cross-'section of fig. 2 on the )line yy.
Sirnila'r letters of reference indicate corresponding pants.
A is the boiler', which is a horizontal cylinder, either with or without interior longitudinal fines.
D is a perforated tube, correspondingr (or nearly so) in length with the boiler.
6 is a circular piece ,of m etaln'igidlyattaclred to the in'jde of the rear boiler-head, for supporting the .back end of the, perforated tube B.
The other end of this tube passesthrongh the front boiler-head, and into the chamber D.
This chamber-may be fany snnble foi-rn, and is rigidly attached', to the outside of the boiler-head.
E is a 'rod attached `tothe end of thetube B, and passing through a stuiing-box, F in the chamber D. G is a pipeoonhected with the chamber' D.
-H is the feed-water supply-pipe. t is a stop-cock therein. J vrepreser'rts scraper-s, (more lor less in nurnber,)
which are securely attached -to the tube B'bymeanspf l flanges, or in any othersnitable manner. rL hese scrap-:1 ers rest lightly on the bottom of the boiler-lI The tube B, being su ported bythe piece() at its back end, and by the rot E in the stalling-box at the other end, it' will besecnthat a longitudinal motion [maybe givenA the tube byrneaus of therod E, and
Y that the Scrapers will by that `means be.' made to 'op--v eratenpon al1 or' nearly'all thefire-surface Vof the boiler'.
The' scrapersmay be made; to more back andl forth more or less, according to fthe lengthof the chamber D. -In Athis manner theLsediment maybe stirred. up and loosened from the'- bottorn (if the boiler, and scale prevented from forming.
The pipe G is connected with the chambcfrfDar'rd perforated tribe B, and is provided with a.' stop-cock` `below the feed-pipe H, so that, byclosin'g the feed-- pipe and opening the stop-cock in Ghthe boiler may be blown on" when the mud and sediment have vbeen loosened up by the 4scraper-s.V
Wlin the blow-'oli' cock is closed, thefceil-watcr is injcctedby the pump' into the pipe B, and distributed evenly 'over the bottom of the boiler through the 'perforations in that tube. This distribution of the .feedwater prevents any sudden contraction of the shell of the boiler', and the facility with which the mudaml sediment are re moved frornthe bottom oft-he 'boilerpree vents the formation of scaleand all the dangers proseeding therefrom.
Having thus described our invention, Wc claim as new and' desire to 'secure Letters 1. Irrcombination with a steanr-boileu'the perfor ated' tube B, Scrapers J, chamber D, and rod E, when the sam'e are arrang` d to operate substantially as andI for the purposes described.
2; In combination with a. stcam-boiler,'a movable tube, having 'scrapers thereon, from' which. the fee'dwater is'distri-btlted, and from which the mudand A sediment arehl'own olf, substantially as described.
ADOLPH BRASE.
