To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, NATALIE A. TEEPLE, a citizen of the United States, and a residentof Philadelphiafin the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Means of Protection for Feminine Wear, of which the following is a specification.

It is well known that rude and flirtatious youths and men, mashers frequently avail themselves of the crowded condition of cars and other means of transportation to annoy and insult ladies next whom they may happen to be seated by pressing a knee or thigh against the adjacent knee or thigh I of their feminine neighbor, who, as often happens is too timid or modest to create a herein described and claimed specifically.

The essential features of the invention are a base 6, adapted to be attached to an.

.undergarment, an elastic resilient guard spring 8, mounted on said base, and a pricker 7), arranged to protrude upon the compres sion of said guard spring.

In the accompanying drawings I have illustrated several forms in which my protector may be made without intending to limit myself strictly thereto, since it is ohvious that various modifications may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and intent of my invention.

fixed to the base 7), and the elastic resilient springs,- is formed with a slot or recess a, through which the point of the pricker will protrude when the spring is compressed,- the bow or curvature of the spring providing the necessary extent of motion to elfect this result.

In Figs. 3 and 4 the pricker p, is mounted upon a comparatively straight tongue 2, attached to the elastic resilient spring 8, the bow or curvature of which latter, when straightened out by pressure renders it longer than the tongue p, so that the end of the latter will then be released from the shoulder 8 allowing the point of the pricker p, to rest against the curved end 8 of the spring, and if the spring 8, is compressed sufficiently, carrying said end 8 beyond the pricker p, and allowing the latter to protrude. Thus for instance, accidental or slight pressure applied to this form of the protector will release the pricker from the detaining shoulder 8 to be still shielded by the return bend s but upon the second application of pressure, orwhere the pressure exerted is intentional and maintained, the point of the pricker p, will be released and rendered effective.

Perhaps the simplest possible practical embodiment of my automatic protector is to form the pricker 79, directly on the end of the elastic resilient spring 8, itself, in which case the point may be either protected normally by a. pivoted shield a, as in Figs. 5 and 6 to be turned by finger pressure when the point is to be rendered operative, or the bow or increased curvature of the spring 8, may be relied upon, as in Figs. 7 and 8, to ward and fend off contact with the point unless unusual pressure is exerted on the bow of the spring. In any case the base 6, forms a means of attachment to an underskirt or garment, and is also essential in that it affords the requisite hearing and resistance to render the protector operative and effective in use.

The device is simple and inexpensive and adapted to be concealed and worn without obtrusion or inconvenience; and if properly positioned on an undergarment, will afford ample individual protection against misconduct of the character designated.
