GARMENrFas'rENE ment-Fasteners, of which the following is a specification.

[This invention relates to separable fasteners for gloves and garments and has for its object the improvement of such devices with a view to increasing their utility and rendering their operation more sure and effective for the purposes/for whichthey are designed.

With this object in view the invention consists in the improyed construction, arrangement and combination of the parts of a fastener which will be fully described hereinafter and afterward specifically claimed. In order derstood, I have illustrated'a preferred embodiment of it in the accompanying draw-' ings, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of the parts of the socket member detached and separated. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the parts of the stud member, and Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view of both membersflattached to the two parts of a glove or garment and engaged with each other.

In this description and in the several figures of the drawing, like parts will be referred to, and are indicated by the same reference characters.

Referring specifically to the drawing, indicates the main part of the socket memher being in the form, before assembling it with the other parts, of an annular plate 6 having a circular depending flange 7 depending centrally from the material of said plate around its central opening 8. Upon one edge of the plate 6 is hinged a cap 9 of inverted dish form from the center of which depends a plug or teat 10 of substantially conical form with a rounded point and provided with a groove 10 adjacent to the cap 9, forming a shoulder at the upper end of the teat. When this cap is closed down on the plate 6, the plug 10 will project into the center of the opening 8.

garment, a washer or annular plate 11 of a curved cross sectional form, as shown in Fig. 1, is laid on the under side of the material, as seen in Fig. 3, and the depending flange 7 passed through the material and into the washer 11 where it.is secured by clenching or upsetting its lower edge after the manner of an eyelet.

The stud member; comprises an annular plate 12 from the center of which rises a stud 13 of a well known construction comprising a number of resilient prongs 14 bent to form a head with. a somewhat restricted neck as at 15, the upper ends of the prongs being curved to form, when brought together, the surrounding walls of a central opening 16. To connect this stud member a washer 17, shown in Fig. 2, of substantially the form of the washer 11. of thesocket memberbefore described is laid on the un der side-of the other overlapping edge 200 of the glove or garment as shown in Fig. 3. An annular plate 18 having a depending central flange 19 is laid ontop of the material and its flange passed through and upset or turned outward, around the inner edge of the washer 17. The plate 12 is now laid on the plate 18 and an annular binding plate or washer 20 is laid on the plate 12, the outer edges of said washer 20 being upset or turned in around the outer edges of plate 18 firmly securing the plate 12 between said washer and the plate 18 as clearly shown in Fig. 3. The overlap ing edges 100 and 200 being separated, an the cap 9 of the socket member raised, the socket member can be brought down over the stud 13, as in the manner usual with stud and socket fasteners, and the resiliency of the prongs 14 of the stud 13 will cause the head portion or stud to expand after passing through the socket which will correspond with the usual engagement of a stud and socket, but by bringing down the cap 9, the plug 10 will enter the open,- ing 16 in the top of the stud, the prongs 14 engaging in the groove 10', and, by virtue of its conical end, will further spread the head of the stud thus firmly securing the flange 7 of the socket member in the neck 15 of the stud member until it is relieved by raising the cap 9 and withdrawing the plug 10, the yielding hold of the resilient force of the prongs of the stud being maintained but which will readily be broken by raising the edge 100 011 the and is secured rigidly in pl 7 cap to said stud member my improved fastenei "or" It will be observed, that the meens; attaehing the members to the material pre-s entst e sdi rleee lmte ;-P us-.- e plates or washers 11 an form a reinforcements around th'e-"'hole "th' the material and against w edgeso'fj the plates?
