F or the purpose of making articles of a different and larger size or irregular shape it is sometimes preferable to construct a main gate-way so that it could shift in its course relatively to the line of movement of the chains or blocks instead of being always parallel. Thus while the gateway 9 Mt e right of Fig. 3 isvshown as vertical, or in ither words is parallel to the line of move ment of the chains, gateway 9 is shown as shitting relatively to the line of movement of the chains at diilleront times. Thus in the upper part of Fig. 3 the main gate-way 9 is to the left as it is at the bottom, but at the intermediate points it is shifted to the right. This is to enable the placing of the largercctangular space 7 shown inside the curve of the main gate-way as appearing on Fig. 3. It is, of course, necessary with a shifting main gateway to also shift the horizontal position of its funnel 8. Accordingly the left hand funnel 8 is shown as a movable one adapted to shittits position horizontally or across the machine, viewed in Fig. 3, to correspond with the shifting of the main gateway. Any suitable means may be employed for shifting the funnel. Those which I employ are as follows: The left-hand funnel 8 is carried or supported by two rings 15,16 having collars 17 and 18 respectively. Col- 17, for it will be understood that there is one on each side of ring15, loosely encircle a cross rod iii-fixed in side supports 20 the lefthand main and 21 of the machine. -,T(l"lthis same rod 19 the right hand funnel '8 is secured by a ring 22 and a collar 23 is fastened to the ring and to the rod. Collar 18 of ring 16 of the movable or left hand funnel 8 is made fast by a collar 24 to a shifting rod 25' mounted in cylindrical openings in the supports '20 and 2.1 and free to move horizontally in them. lt will be understood that. there are two rods 19, one on each side of the funnel and but one red 25. Spring 26 is secured at one,end to ring 16 and at the otherend to sup iort 21. It tends to pull the movable or lett hand funnel S to the left as viewed in Fig. The funnel is pulled to the right by means of cum surfaces 27 projecting from the right hand end of certain oi the blocks 1, as shown in Fig. 3L An arm 28 encircles and is fast at its upper end 29 to rod 25 and at its lower end has a wheel 30 pressing against the right ends of the blocks 1. In a molding machine the combination with a plurality of series of movable moldblocks adapted to be brought together to cause the corresponding mold-blocks in the diti'erent series to form between them a hollow space adapted to constitute a molding space and to be separated to discharge the cast article, of a plunger of desiredsize and shape adapted to be moved into and to occupy part of the molding space during the casting operation and to be withdrawn at or prior to the separation of the blocks.

In a molding machine the coithbination with a plurality of series of movable moldblocks adapted to be brought together to cause the corresponding mold-blocks in. the different series to form between them a hollow space adapted to constitute a molding space and to be separated to discharge the cast article, of a plunger of desired size and shape adapted to be moved into and to occupy part of the molding space during the casting operation and to be withdrawn at or prior to the separation of the blocks, and a cam for moving the plunger into and out of position in the molding space at appropriate times.

The combination of a plurality of series of moi-able mold-blocks, adapted to be brought together to form molding spaces and to be separated to discharge molded or cast articles, provided with molding spaces for different shaped articles, a main gateway for the passage ofthe metal shifting in its course from the linc of movement of the mold-blocks, and sub-gate-ways for leading the metal from the main gate-way to the molding spaces.
