GARDEN-TRUCK-BURNER BARRW.
moscas.
To @ZZ 'whom t may concern.'
Be it known that l, THOMAS Travis, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Montclair, in the county of Essex and State ot New Jersey, have invented a new and lmproved Garden-Truclr-Burner Barrow, ot which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
lhe object of the invention is to provide a new and improved garden truck-burner barrow which vcan be readily wheeled about and used either for carting purposes or for burning garden truck at any point in the garden without danger of setting lire to surrounding objects. and at the same time avoiding tedious carting of the garden truck to a separate burner at a distant point.
ln order to accomplish the desired result use is made of a wheelbarrow having a metal body provided with removable sides and a back, the bottom of the body being perforated to form a grate adapted to be covered by a removable covering plate, and an ash box on the under side of the bottom of the said body and provided with a removable bottom plate to allow of dumping the ashes..
A practical embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings torming a part of this specification, in which similar characters ot reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure l is a side elevation of the garden truck-burner barrow as arranged for carting purposes; Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same with part of the covering plate broken out to show the perforate bottom of the body; Fig. 3 is a sectional side elevation of the same; Fig. 4f is a transverse section of the same; and Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the covering plate and the fastening means for locking the covering plate in position on the bottom of the body.
The frame A of the barrow is preferably made. of metal and is provided at its rear end with handles B and legs B', and the front end of the trame'A is provided with a wheel C for conveniently wheeling` the barrow about in the garden or other place. On the frame A is mounted a body having a bottom D provided with perforations D to form a grate, the forwardend of the bottom D terminating in an upwardly and forwardly curved front E, as plainly indicated in the drawings. The body of the Specification of Letters Patent.

G2 held on the sides F to removablv hold the back G in position.
Underneath the bottom D is arranged an ash box I provided with a removable bottom l mounted to slide at its sides in suitable guideways l2 arranged in the sides of the box l (see Fig. a).
The pertorate bottom D is adapted to be covered by a covering plate J to close the perforations D and thus allow use ot thel barrow as an ordinary garden barrow for carting dirt and other materials from one place to another. When it is desired to use the barrow for burning garden truck the plate J is removed and the matter to be burned is thrown into the box body and ignited so that the said matter burns on the perforate bottom D which acts as a grate, and the ashes drop through the perforations D into the ash box l. When it is desired to remove the ashes the bottom plate l is pulled out to permit of dropping the ashes at any desired spot.
In order to securely hold the covering plate J in position the forward edge thereot is provided with lugs J engaging apertures at the forward end oi' the bottom D and on the rear end of the plate J is mounted a depending bolt K adapted to extend through a bearing A formed in the rear cross bar A2 ot the frame A. The lower end of the bolt K is provided with an elongated head K adapted to abut against the under side ot the cross bar B at a right angle to the bearing B2 so as to lock the plate J in position. When it is desired to remove the plate J the user gives a quarter turn to the bolt K so as to move the head K into regisu ter with the bearing B2 to allow of swinging the plate J upwardly and removing the same from the bottom D by disengaging the lugs J from the openings in the bottom D.
It is understood that when the barrow is used for burning purposes the covering plate J is removed and then the barrow can be wheeled to any desired place for receiving and burning leaves, dry stalks, small, dry
shrubbery clippings and similar light burnable stuff such as is usually found in a garden. it Will further be noticed that the materials can be readily burned Without scattering Weed seeds, and leaves can be burned on a' golf green or a lavvn Without raking and carting the Same a long distance, thus avoiding big and dangerous leaf fires Which are liable to occur When burning leaves directly on the ground. It Will also be noticed that the truck-burner barroiv can also be safely used for burning Waste paper, burnable rubbish and the like coming from a house.
By providing an ash box I the ashes do not drop directly on the ground and hence ugly burnt spots on the garden are avoided,
and the ashes can be carted to any point in` the garden to be dumped at a desired place for use as a fertilizer.
Having thus described my invent-ion, l claim as nev7 and desire to secure by Letters Patent: y
l. ln a garden truck-burner barrow, the combination of a Wheelbarrow frame, a metal body comprising a perforate bottom fixed on the said frame and terminating in a fixed front, detachable sides and a detachable back a covering pla-te removably covering the said perforate bottom, and an ash pit on the under side of the said bottom.
2. ln a garden truck-burner barrow, the combination of a Wheelbarrow frame, a metal body comprising a perforate bottom fixed on the said frame and terminating in a fixed front, detachable sides and a detachable baclr, a covering plate removably covering the said perforate bottom, and an ash pit on the under side of the said bottom and provided With a removable bottom plate.
8. ln a garden truck-burner barrow, the combination of a Wheelbarrovv frame, a metal body comprising a perforate bottom fixed on the said frame and terminating in a fixed front, detachable sides and a detachable back, a covering plate provided at one edge with lugs adapted to engage apertures in said bottom, and a locking means for locking the said covering plate inl place over the said bottom, and an ash pit on the under side of the said bottom.
ln testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
