Be it lmown that l, Enrzaenm Marianna Bunnrmn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York,

have invented certain new and useful linprovements in Dress-Shields, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to improvements'in dress shields, an article worn at the arm holes in womens garments to prevent perspiration from penetrating the material of the garment.

Une of the principal objects of my inven' tion is to provide an improved form of dress shield which, owing to the construction and correlated arrangement of its constituout parts, may be easily kept in a thoroughly sanitary condition.

A further object is to so construct the shield that the rubber pad or layer used in such shields, may be readily removed and Washed; and as the rubber is generally the most expensive portion of the shield, as well as that which most readily retains the odor of perspiration, the facility with Which the rubber pad of my improved shield may be removed and inserted, effects both a saving in cost of material and a decided increase in cleanliness.

A still further object, is to provide a part of the shield with a pocket or receptacle to receive an antiseptic or fragrant substance, which is rendered active by the heat of the body of the wearer.

'lhe invention comprises the features hereinafter claimed, and fully described in the following specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a side elevational view, parts being broken away, of my improved shield; and Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view, on the line 22 of Fig. 1, looking in the direction of the arrows.

Dress shields are generally substantially crescent shaped, to fit the arm hole of a dress, and my improved shield is illustrated as having this form, although it will be understood that variations in shape may be readily made.

The walls are each substantially crescent shaped, normally lie parallel to each other, and are connected at their upper edges by stitching 12. The inner Walls of the shield, 13 and 14, are also made of suitable fabric, and substantially correspond in shape with the walls and ii. The inner walls lie at opposite sides of the arm hole of the dress, while the outer walls are nearest the body of the wearer. if prefer to provide one of the inner wallswith a pocket or receptacle 1:"), designed to receive an antiseptic or fragrant substance 16..

Adapted to be interposed between the inner and outer fabric walls of the dress shield, is a pad or sheet of rubber consisting of the preferably integral layers 17 and 18, both of which are substantially crescent shaped, in order to correspond with the shape of the fabric walls. It is my purpose to removably secure the inner and outer fabric members together, and also to removably attach the rubber insert pad between the inner and outer walls, as more particularly shown in Fig. 2. With these ends in view, it provide about the inner peripheries of the outer Walls 10 and 11, and about the outer peripheries of the inner walls 13 and 14, suitable fastening members, which are also designed to pass through the insert pad at its periphery. The fastening means preferably consist of snap fasteners, each comprising a male member 19 which may be secured to the inner wall 13 or 14, and a female member 20, which may be secured to the outer wall 10 or 11. The male members 19 pass through orifices at the periphcry of the rubber pad, and into the female members of the fasteners, thus securing the fabric members together and retaining the rubber between the fabric.

'lo obviate the necessity of stitching the dress shield to the dress, I may provide near each of the upper side edgesof the shield, a hook 21 which may be engaged by an eye 22 carried at the end of a band or cord 23, adjustable in length and designed to encircle the arm, which band acts to support the shield in position.

in assembling a shield embodying my invention, the rubber insert pad is first laid over the inner member l3l4-, then the outer member l0l1 is placed over the rubber laver, and the snap fasteners are closed. To disassemble the device, the hooks are simply opened, whereby therubber pad may be removed for cleaning, and the fabric members may be washed. The snap fas lld tenors are spaced some distance from each other, so as to form ventilating spaces therebetween.

Havin thus described my invention, what I c aim is A dress shield, comprising a .pair of crescent shaped outer walls of a single thickness of fabric, connected at their upper edges, a flexible insert member comprising a pair of integral crescent shaped walls, the upper edge of said member resting under the up er connected edges of the outer fabrie wa ls, a pair of crescent shaped inner walls of a single thickness of fabric and having their upper edges connected and lying outer and inner fabric walls and passing 20 through the periphery of said flexible insert member for releasably connecting the latter and said inner and outer fabric walls together.
