To all 'whom it may con-cem:
Be it known that I, HvMAN Urrmm, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, county ot Kings, city and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Improved Containers, of which the following is a clear, full, and exact description.
rIhis invention relates to improved containers for various articles, particularly adapted to contain flat phonograph records.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple, durable and eiiicient device of the kind which will permit access to the records more readily than in the present albums employed for that purpose.
A further object is to secure the result desired by use of as. little cabinet room as possible.
In carrying out. my invention, I provide either a single box or a cabinet of boxes or partitions, which I term inclosing members for containing the box or drawer which is to contain the records, and which I term the containing member. A cam and cam slot and guard plate secure the two members together, and permit the containing member to be drawn horizontally out for a distance, and then swung on an arc outside of the inclosing member so that the containing member will have its Jfront part drop below the inclosing member; thus I am enabled to secure the swinging of the containing member without providing for any increasedheight in the cabinet. A
he scope of my invention will be pointedout in the claims.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation. partly open of one unit of my improved device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation, uopposite side of Fig. 1, with the device in closed position. Fig. 3 is a View similar to Fig. 2 with the device in open position. Fig. 4 is a section on line '4.-4 Fig. 2. Fig- 5 is a section ofa cabinet provided with a number .of my units.
As shown in the drawings, 1 is the inclosing member, which consists of an ordinary box-like lstructure having an open front with a cam slot 2K in the wall thereof,-but covered with the material which covers the box if it be a unit, If it be made with compartments as shown in Fig. 5, the covering will of course be omitted. To the wall of theo memberl, adjacent to the cam slot, I locate and secure by rivets or otherwise a guard plate 3 having an aperture l conforming in shape to the cam slot, which receives the stem 5 of a stud 'which carries an enlarged head 6 within the cam slot. rlhe stud is secured by washers 7 and 8 to the wall 9 or" the containing member 10.
The containing member is constructed with an ordinary closed Yfrontll provided vwith a grasping ring 12 and preferably wlth one complete side 13, that is, complete excepting that the upper inner corner 1s made in the form of an arc to permit a pivoting of the device when it is in the position of Fig. 3. The opposite side 14 I prefer to make of approximately half the height of the box, exposing 'from that side the envelops 15 and the records 16. The back wall of the box 17 I extend preferably only up so far as to meet the top of the side 14.
In carrying out this invention details of construction may be varied from those shown, and yet the essence of the invention be retained; some parts might be employed without others, and new features thereof might be combined with elements old in the art in diverse ways, although the herein described type is regarded as embodying substantial improvements over such modifications.
As many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently' widely diiierent embodiments of the invention could be made without departino from the scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the above description or shown in the accompanying drawings shall be interpreted in an illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
It is furthermore desired to be understood that the language used in the following claims is intended to cover all the generic and specific features of the invention herein described, and all statements of the scope of the invention which as a matter of language might be said to fall therebetween.
I claim as my invention:
1. The herein described container for phonograph blanks and the like, consisting of theinclosing receptacle, the containing receptacle adapted to fit within the inclosing receptacle, anda cam mechanism securing the two together but adapted to permit the withdrawal of the containin receptacle from the inclosing receptacle or a limited distance, and. then ermit apivoting of the containing receptac e. f
2. The herein described container for y phonograph blanks and the like, consisting 4tacle having its inner and upper edges of -less height and length than its outer an lower sides respectively.
3. The herein described container for phonograph'blanks, and the like, consisting of the inclosing receptacle,- the containing receptacle adapted to fit within the inclos- 'ing receptacle, and a cam mechanism securing the two together, but adapted to permit the withdrawal of the containing receptacle from the inclosing receptacle for a limited distance, and then ermit a pivoting of the containing receptac e, said cam mechanism consisting of a cam slot lin the wall of the inclosing member and a pin retaining the c0ntaining member at all times in movable but permanent relation to the inclosing member.
moebel` 4. The herein described device consisting ofthe inclosing member having a cam slot and guard plate, a headed stud, the head within the cam slot, the S'tem of the stud projecting through the guard plate, a containing member, the side of which is secured to said stud.
5. The herein described device consisting of the inclosing member having a cam slot and guard plate, a headed stud, the head within the cam slot, the stem of the stud projecting through the guard plate, a containing member, the side of which is secured to said stud, th'e containing member of rectangular shape, with the upper inner corner cut away whereby it may be slid and guided horizontally for part of its distance, and
permitted to rock during therest of its m0- tion.
