T 0 all whom it may concern Be it known that I, Hnnnnr M. GREIsT, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and State of Connecticut, have. invented or discovered certain new and useful Improvements in Sewing-Machinc-Attachment Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.

' This invention relates to a sewing machine attachment-holder by which an attachment, such, for example, as an underbraider or a shining plate, may be secured in working position on the bed plate. of a sewing machine simply by closing the shuttle-slide or cover which permits of access to the shuttle or looper. To this end the plate or body ofthe attachment holder is provided with a downturned finger ex tending outward from one edge thereofand adapted to loosely enter a hole in the bed is also provided,'at a point widely separated from said finger, witha downturned hook or projection adapted to be engaged by the shuttle slide when the latter is moved to closed position.

In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a plan view of the improved attachment holder with an underbraider mounted thereon, in operative relation to the throat-plate and shuttle-slide of a sewing machine. Fig. 2 is a side view of the attachmentholder or part shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a section on line 33, Fig. 1. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the improved attachment holder with a shirring plate mounted thereon, and Fig.- 5 is a side view of the attachment holder shown in Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawing, 12 denotes a plate forming the bed or body of the attachment. said plate or body being provided with adownwardly bent finger or projection 13 extending outward from one .edge thereof and adapted to loosely enter a hole in the throat plate 18 of the said plate or body 12 being also provided, at a point removed from the said finger or projection 13. with a downwardly bent lug or hook 14 adapted to be engaged by the shuttle slide or cover 19, when the latter is in closed position. The downwardly bent finger or projection 13 will afford a loose pivotal connection of the plate or body a sewing machine,

12 with the bed plate of the sewing machine, so that when the shuttle slide is moved to closed position and comes into engagement with the downwardly bent lug or hook it theattachment which may be mounted on the plate or body 12 will be accurately positioned with reference to. the needle of themachine. The downwardly bent lug or hook to be engaged by the shuttle slide is preferably formed in two parts affording a comparatively narrow part or spring finger l4 adapted to engage a groove or recess 20 formed in the lower face of the shuttle slide 19 and thus securely maintain the attachmerit in working position.

In. the form of the invention shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 an inverted trough 15 is shown as being attached to the upper side of the plate or body 12, the said inverted trough afi'ording a braid-guiding passage. This construction constitutes an underbraider with which may cooperate a spring finger 16 to press upon the braid and smooth the same out in its forward passage. particular form of underbraider herein shown is not claimed in this application, but is reserved to my application No. 786,155 filed simultaneously herewith. In the construction shown in Figs. l and 5 the plate or b dy 12 is shown as being provided with a shirring plate 17, of well-known form, adapted tor coiiperation with a sewing machine rufiler. for shirring. when the separator plate of the ruflier has been removed. In both of the constructions shown it will be observed that the lugs or projections 14 will be engaged by the shuttle slide at the left hand side of the plate or bod 12, this construction being more particularly adapted for sewing machines em loying scillating or rotating shuttles. and in which, in machines of these kinds at present in use. the shuttle slides are usually arranged at the left hand ends oi the bed plates of the sewing machines. Of course it will be understood that other forms of attachments, over which the work may pass. might be mounted on the improved atta chmeut holders here- 1 1n shown and adapted to lie close to the work-plates of sewing machines, I aving thus described my invention I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patout:

An attachmentholder for sewing machines consisting of a bed or body plate provided at one edge with a downtnrned outwardly extending finger adapted to loosely enter a hole in the throat-plate of a sewing machine, and also provided, at a point removed from said downturned outwardly extending finger, with a downturned portion adapted to be engaged by a shuttle slide of the machine to maintain the holder in working position.

An attachment holder for sewing machines consisting of a bed or body plate provided at one edge with a downturned outwardly extending finger adapted to loosely the throat-plate of a sewing enter a hole in machine, and also provlded, at a polnt removed from said downturned outwardly extending finger, with a downtnrned portion adapted to be engaged by a shuttle slide of the machine to maintain the holder in working position, said downturned portion being formed in two parts one of which is adapted to engage a recess in the lower face of the shuttle slide. i
