The aims and purposes of the present in-V vention aieto provide a machine oi the generaltype mentioned which shall be simple in construction, eilicient in operation,` and wherein uniformity of product may be at` tained, all as will moreiully appear from the following description and accompanying drawings of one `form of means for carrying theinvention into practical effect.`

From the construction described it will be noted that the act of placing the heel in working position causes longitudinal inovement of the work slide, and that the breast stops, by engagement with the heel breast, `means for determining not heel is in proper scalloping Only when the but also the longi position on the heel plate,

Since the cutter blades and heel supporting plate are related, as indicated in Fig. 2, it follows that the length of the cut 27, Fig. 5, made in the breast edge of the toplift will depend upon the part of the cutting blades which acts upon the heel when the latter is in its iinal cutting position, so that should the heel reach its final cutting positie-nat a point nearer the base of the cutting blades, or to the right7 Fig. 2, the length of the cut 27, will be less than if such position is reached at' a portion of the blades nearer` their outer ends, as will be obvious. IThe longitudinal adjustment of the bracket or work slidesupport 13, as hereinbeforepointed out, will enable the length of the cut 27 to bevaried, as described, and likewise the adjustment of the bracket 9 transversely of the cutter shaftwill enablethe depth of the cut 2"(y to be varied without at the same time varying the length.
From the described construction as one embodiment ofthe present invention it will b e apparent that the scallop or concave cut 2T formed in the breast edge of the toplift may be variously formed, lthat is, it may be made longer and deeper or it may be made vdeeper without being at the same time elongated.
