Description
UNITED sTATEs PATENT onirica.
DAVID N. KOWNOVER, OF DANVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNR TO RICHARD L.
KOWNOVER.
MODE 0F CLOSING WICKETS IN CANAL-GATES.
Specicaton of Letters Patent No. 11,077, dated June 13, 1854.
and Improved Mode of Closing VVickets in Canal Lock-Gates; and I do hereby declare that the/ following is a full and eXact description thereof and manner of its operation, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of-this specification, in which;
Figure l is a perspective view of a canal lock with the gates closed. A represents the gates of the lock; B, the wickets, of which Bc is open and B closed; C, the Wicket rod; D, an arm attached to the wicket rod C below the balance beam E, which arm is supplied with a roller J, at its end. E represents the balance beams, H the wicket levers or handles. G the recess in the wall, into which the gates swing when opened back. When the wicket is open, as represented in B and the gate is swung back into the recess, the roller J on the arm D strikes the recess Wall at L, and as the gate approaches the wall the roller passes along the saine from L toward M closing the wicket by its own action.
Fig. 2, is a separate view of a wicket, with its rod, arm and lever. O represents the upper sill (in part) of the lock gate immediately above which the arm is fastened to the wicket rod, which operates the closing of the Wicket as above stated.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
Attaching an arm with roller to wicket rods of canal lock gates, by which means the wicket will close when the gate is opened as above specified.
D. N. KOWNOVER.
