When lightning strikes a line protected one Or these erresters, or when there is any abnormal surge on the me, the loop or spinal member of the s-rrester sets as e horns and is thereby broken and extin uished. The current pessing eround the 00p or spiral produces e magnetic which apparently sets as e blow-out and meterielly decreases the time required to extinguish the The grounded spiral also sets as e choke-coil or reectsnce and duces s magnetic field which supplements that set up by the line spiral. The singleloop arrester shown in Fig i can be em" ployed for voltages below fifteen thousand.
The two-pert arrester with e spiral lineinember is effective for voltages up to fortyfonr thousand. For higher voltages, the three-pert crrester having the intermediate neutral triangle is preferably employed.
1 claim:
1. A lightning arrest-er, comprising a loop in series with the line, said loop constituting e choke-coil and one of its sides constituting an erohorn, and a grounded :LIG-l101I.1 in proximity to the line src-horn.
2. A lightning errester, comprising spiral in series the line said spiral constituting e choke-coil and one of its sides constituting an arc-horn and e grounded arc-horn in proximity to the line erc'horn.
3. A lightning arrester, comprising a triangular flat loop in series with t? J line. seie. loop constituting a cliolrecoil and one of its inclined sides constituting an archers and 2t grounded arc-horn in proximity to the line ere-horn.
lightning srrester, comprising e triangular spire! In series with the line, said spiral constituting a choke-coil and one of its inclined sides constituting an arc-horn, end a grounded arc-horn in proximity to the line ere-horn.
5. lightning orrester, comprising 2 triangular spiral in series With the line, said spiral constituting a CllOl-COll and one its inclined sides constituting RIQ-llfllll; and grounded triangular spiral arc-horn in proximity to the line arc-ho '1.
A lightning errester, comp' sing i in. series with the line, said loop const e choke-coil and one of its sides constisu an erc-hcrn, a grounded erohorn in pro i imity to the line archers, and e member between and having horns opposi said line-horn and grormdedhorn.
Z. A lightning erres er, comprisinge loop in series with the line, ssid loop constituting e choke-coil end one of its sides constituting erooorn, a grounded arc-horn in proximity to the line erc-l1orn, and neural member between and having horns adjustable i opposing ssid line-horn and grounded-horn.
iii. lightning srrester, comprising an archer-n in. circuit with the line, end a grounded circuit comprising av chokecoil, one of the sides of said choirs-coil constituting an ere-horn, said arc-horns arranged in proximity.
9. A lightning; eriwester comprising en. arc-horn in circuit with the line, and a grounded triangular spiral, said spiral cor.- stituting a choke-coil and one of it inclined sides constituting an arc-horn, horns arranged in proximity.
