WATER-HEATER.
To all whom it ma concern:
Be it known that I, CLAUDE L. Pos'r, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of Chicago, county of Cook, and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Tater-Heaters, of which the following is a'specification.
My invention relates to water heaters and more particularly to heaters for heating water in range boilers.
The object of this improvement is to provide a simple and effective device of this character which will effectively heat the water vin a range boiler without interfering with any of the fittings thereof.
Other objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists in the combinations and arrangements of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by reference to the accompanying drawing and in which,
Figure 1 is a side vievsT of a range boiler equipped with my invention, Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 in Fig. l.
The preferred form of construction as illustrated in the accompanying drawing comprises a range boiler 4 having its ordinary water connections 5. Secured to one side of the bo'ler 4 is a circular wall 6 having its edge portions 7 offset and engaging the wall of said tank. At one of the edges 7 is secured, two supporting bands 8 by means of 'rivets 9, or their equivalent. The 'other ends of said `bands 8 are passed through perforated ears 10 on the other edge 7 of wall 6 and rebent to securely bind the wall 6 to the tank 4. y
At the lower end of wall 6 is an outwardly flaring portion 11. At'the lower end of the flaring portion 11 is a portion 12 vsubstantially concentric with the boiler 4. Between the portion 12 and boiler 4 is secured a gas burner 13, or any other suitable source of heat supply. The burner 13 is situated substantially as shown under the flaring portion 11 in a manner to cause the heat rising directly toward the flaring portion 11 to be reflected toward the boiler 4.

The narrow space 14 is provided between the wall 6 and boiler 4 to permit the heat from burner 13 to pass upwardly around the side of boiler 4 and open at its top substantially as shown.
On the inner side of wall 6 is provided a heat reflecting or heat non-conducting niaterial 15 which is designed to facilitate directing the heat toward the boiler 4. The material 15 is preferably made of asbestos or an asbestos compound. The wall 6 is preferably of a width to inclose slightly less than one half of the boiler 4 in order to prevent interfering with any of the fittings of the boiler and to facilitate its being fitted to said boiler;
While .I have illustrated and described the preferred form of construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but
' desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In combination, a tank; a wall having its main portion spaced from said tank and its longitudinal edge portions close to said tank, said wall extending around said tank but partially; a source of heat supply at the lower edge of said wall between the latter and said tank; a heat reflecting lining on the inner side of said wall and having its longitudinal edges extending under and providing tight Ajoints between said longitudinal edges and said tank; and bands extending around said tank between the edges of said wall and binding the latter tightl against said tank, substantially as describe In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. y
