Description

E. CRANDALL- v Childs Carriage. No 110,745 v I Pa-tenbetg Jan. 3, 1871. 1
cciur iair5 jfiairni dffirr.
Letters Patent No. 110,745, dated January 3, 1871.
IMPROVEMENT iN CHILDRENS CARRIAGES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it knownthat I, WIL IAM E. ORANDALL, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Childrens Carriages; and I do hereby declare the following to .be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification, in which drawing- Figure 1 represents a'side view of this invention.
Figure, 2 is a longitudinal vertical section of the same.
Similar letters indicate corresponding parts.
This invention relates to that class of childrens carriages forw-hichLetters Patent have been granted to me February 22, ,18-7 0.
The carriage is made of two profile frames, which are connected to each other by an intermediate seat, a toy-box, and a traverse, and each of which is secured to ar'unnen'to which may be attached axles with wheels; and
My present improvement consists in connecting all these parts together byfscrcws sothat they can be readily taken. apart for the purpose of packing, and put together again for use, without much loss of time.
The axles, secured to the under surface of the runners and a handle which is attached to the back of the seat, are so constructed that they can be readily taken off and that the carriage can be converted into a rocking toy, and vice cersm;
If it is desired to use the device as an ordinary childrens carriage, a draft-pole is connected to the front axle, and said front axle is unscrewed from the runner and attached to a bolster secured to the footboard, so that it can turn on its king-bolt for the purpose of steering.
In the drawing-"- The letters AA designate two profileframes which are made in-t'he form of horses or of other animals, and secured each to a runner, B, by means of screws a.
The two profile-frames are united to each other by a seat, 0, situated between them, and fastened to the same by screws 1).
Between the necks of the profile-frames is -fastened a toy-box, D, by means of screws (Z, and a traverse,
E is secured by screws e between the heads of said frames.
The runners B are connected together bya foot board, F, which is fastenedto them by screws f.
When the carriage is who used as a pcrambulator, I attach to the runners B two axles, G, by means of screws 91, and a handle, H, is fastened to the seat O; or, if it is preferred to use the device as an ordinary carriage, the front axle is removed from the runners, and attached by a single screw, 71:, to a b0lSl7Bl',i,1)l'0- jecting from the under surface of the foot-board, F,
to a distance. Heretofore I was compelled to pack each carriage in a large box for itself, but by uniting the parts by screws I am enabled to take the same apart and pack them close togetlicr,-and when they are unpacked it requires but littletime to reunite them. And, furthermore, by providing the runners,
the carriage can be readily transformed into a rocking toy of convenient construction.
\Vhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-'- 1. The mode of securing the profile-frames A A, runners B B, seat 0, toy-box D, traverse E, and footboard F, to each other, by means of screws, substantially as and for the purpose shown and described.
2. The handle H, in combination with profiled'rames A A, seat 0, runners B B, and axles G, substantially as set forth.
W. E. ORANDALL.
Witnesses i W. Hanan, E. F. KASTENHUBER.
