MARTIN V. HAMMACK, OF KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI.
TROUSERS APPLIANCE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Aug. 18, 1914:.
Application filed May 14, 1913. Serial No. 767,616.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN V. HAMMACK, a citizen of the United States, residing at Kansas City, in the county of Jackson and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Appliances, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in trousers appliances, and refers particularly to a device adapted to be inserted in the leg of the trousers to perform the functions of stretching and pressing the trousers and also forming a handy and convenient hanger.
One object of my invention is the provision of a device which will be capable of instant application and adjustment to any size or length of trousers and which will insure the trousers being properly creased and stretched in order that the trousers may be presented in neat and proper condition for wear.
Another object of my invention is the provision of a device capable of easy application and adjustment to the trousers and which will be light in weight, strong and durable, compact and small in size, and capable of production at a very small price to render the device eflicient and practical.
With the attainment of these objects in view my invention consists of a trousers appliance embodying novel features of construction and combination of parts substantially as disclosed herein.
Figure l is a side elevation of my device broken away to show the sectional construction of the supporting rod and showing in dotted lines a trousers leg in position upon the device. Fig. 2 is a side elevation with the adjustable stretching arms folded or 001- lapsed, and Fig. 3 is a perspective on an enlarged scale of the novel construction of device which I use for adjusting the arms.
My device is of extremely simple construction and embodies a supporting rod A, provided with a hanging loop or ring B, and made either in one or two sections, connected by a socket and tenon joint C, and upon the upper and lower end of the rod is mounted by means of their openings D, the sliding adjusting plates E, which are provided with kerfs or recesses F, which receive the inner portions of the two pairs of curved arms G,
which are pivoted at their inner ends J, to the rod and have their outer ends formed with openings K, to which are connected the ends of the trousers engaging cords or wires L. The rod near its upper end is provided with a pair of clasps M, and in use the leg of the trousers is inclosed or fitted upon the device as shown in Fig. l with the clasps engaging the lower portion of the trousers and when the device has been inserted in the trousers leg the sliding plates are moved to cause the pairs of arms to bring the trousers engaging means against the trousers and thus retain the trousers legs in flat and properly stretched and creased condition.
It will be understood that for a pair of trousers two of the devices are used, one device being applied to a leg of the trousers and that the adjusting arms are curved to insure the proper spreading or adjusting of the arms by the sliding of the plates upon said arms, the recesses in the sliding plates retaining the plates upon the arms and hold ing said arms in proper position within the trousers leg.
It will be apparent that mydevice will perform its functions in an efficient and practical manner, is light in weight and will occupy a small space in the trunk or suit case, easy to manipulate and can be produced at a very small price.
I claim:
A trousers appliance consisting of a supporting member, two pairs of curved arms having their inner ends bent inward and pivoted in said member at its upper and lower ends with their pivots one above the other to allow proper movements of said curved arms, trousers engaging devices connecting the outer ends of said pairs of curved arms, and a pair of plates slidingly mounted on the member and formed each with recesses to receive and move the pivoted inner ends of the arms for adjusting said arms laterally and retaining the arms in proper position in the trousers leg.
In testimony whereof I aliiX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
MARTIN V. I-IAMMAOK.
Witnesses Fnnnmuon L. NELSON, Geo. H. MUssoN.
