DERRICK.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 28, 1914.
Application filed April 9,1913. Serial No. 760,021.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LACY H. JONES a citizen of the United States, residing at Lewiston, in the county ofFulton, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Derricks; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to improvements in lifting devices, and particularly to a portable derrick.
One object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which is simple in construction, and which is easy of operation.
Another object is to provide a simple device of this character in which great leverage power is produced.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings.
In the drawings: Figure 1 is a side elevation of the derrick. Fig.2 is a top plan view. Fig. 3 is a front elevation. Fig. 4 is a fragmentary sectional view of portions of the members 14 and 19.
Referring particularly to the accompanying drawings, 10 represents a suitable upright, near the upper end of which are pivoted the downwardly and forwardly extending braces 11, these braces being connected at their lower ends to the lower end of the upright by the flexible members 12, these members being preferably chains. Secured to the upper end of the upright and extending horizontally outward over the braces 11 is an arm 13 to which is pivotally connected the lifting lever 14, this lever carrying a hook l5. Formed through the upright 10 is a longitudinal slot 16 through which the rear or operating end of the lever 14; extends and moves. Pivoted within the lower end of the slot 16 is the lower end of a moving support 17, the upper end of which is I pressed, and the handle'end elevated. The
object to be lifted is engaged in the hook 15, and the handle end of the lever 14' pulled down. This will raise the hook end of the lever to lift the object. The arm 13 is also pivoted to the upright 10, and swings downwardly when the lever is moved to engage" an object, and swings upwardly with the lever. The support 17 acts as a fulcrum for the lever 14 and increases the leverage by swinging outwardly as the lifting end of the lever rises.
What is claimed is:
V A derrick comprising a slotted upright, an outwardly extending arm pivoted to the upper end of the upright, a lifting lever piv-' otally connected near one end to the outer end of the arm and extending through the slot of the upright, and a pivoted supporting fulcrum link carried in the lower end of the slot of the upright and pivotally connected to the lever below the pivot thereof.
In testimony whereof, I afiix my signature, in presence of two witnesses.
LACY H. JONES.
Witnesses:
OREss V. GRoAT, FAYE LILLY.
