To all whom it may concern:
Be. it known that I, Dr. IGNAZ KREIDL, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hungary, resident of Vienna, in the Empire of Austria-Hungary, (whose post-office address is -Kohlgasse -9, Vienna XXL) have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Enameling Compositions, of which the following is a s ecification.

The invention is based upon the discovery that the metal compounds suitable as opa- 'quing agents such as the oxids and the silicates of zirconium, tin, titanium and the like possess in colloidal state a great covering power, owing to the fact that colloids possess physical qualities which these compounds. in a non-colloidal (crystalloid) condition, do not possess, which qualities aid in producing a satisfactory clouding action.
The invention consists therefore in the manufacture of enameling compositions in which as opaquing agents are employed the colloids of themetal compounds suitable as opaqning agents, such as the oxids, the silicziztes of zirconium, tin, titanium and. the li e.
One method to render the oxids and silicates for, example of zirconium suitable as opaquing agents consists in finely grinding them and attacking them by means of acidulated or alkaline water (water containing acids, especially weak acids or alkaline matter). By such treatment the oxids and silicates become colloids. A colloidal forma': tion as sol should be avoided by the presence of small quantities of crystalloids. The attack by the acidor alkaline solutions may be favored by the presence of clay.

4. An enameling composition containing as an opaquiiig agent, colloidal zirconium oxid.
5. An enanieling compositioncontaining as opaquing agent a colloid of an oxygencontaining zirconium compound.
