Application led January 19, 1914. Serial No. 813,052.
` led to serve as a means for removingv the -oragainst the bottom of disk l where it will bel dinary cardboard disk used as a closure for said bottles, the object of the invention being to provide a simple and eflicient'device of this character.
The invention consists in thecombinations and arrangements of 'parts hereinafter described and' claimed;
The invention will be best understood by` reference to the accompanying drawing forming a part hereofl and which isa sectional view taken through the mouth of a milk bottle showing a device embodying my invention in position of use.
The preferred form of construction as 4illustrated inthe drawing comprises a circular. metallic disk or plate 1 adapted to be inserted Within the mouth of an ordinary milk bottle 2 and resting fiat upon the usual.
cardboard closing disk 3 as indicated. The disk l is provided witlia central upwardly extendingrecess# and a cork screw member 5 made of` spring-wire and is mounted in 4said recess for limited longitudinal movement .therein and projectiiigtherefroni. The uppery end of cork screwmember 5 is provided with an operating' handle 6 to facilitate manipulations thereof and 'of the cover itself. At its outer edgedisk 1 is provided with a raised edge flange 7 which is adapted to fit against the edgesof the mouth of bottle 2 and serve'as a supplemental seal therefor. e In use, when it is desired to remove the closure 3,' the disk 1 is inserted in the mouth of the bottle to rest Hat against said closure. Then handle 6 is pressed downwardly and turned until cork screw member 5 punctures the closure 3 and draws the same tightlyheld by the spring 'action of' the spring wire inthe cork screw member 5, the limited Specication of Letters fatent. Patented July 14,' 1914i I longitudinal movement of cork screw memloer Y5 permittingl of such adjustment and The arrangement of the manipula-tion.I parts is such that when closure 3 has thus been secured to disk 1,` flange 7I will rest snugly against the upper edge of the bottle mouth to constitute a supplemental seal in case the closure isreplaced. By this' arrangement, when it is'desired to reseal the bottle, the closure 3 operates as a washer forthe cover disk 1 so that "a double seal is obtained.-v It will also be. observed that the puncture caused by the cork screw member through the closure 3 is completely inclosed by the disk land thus sealed from tlie out-` side air and any leakage through said punc- 'ture is also prevented from escape.
l/Vhile I have illustrated and described the preferred form ofl construction for carrying my invention into effect, this is capable of variation and modification without departing from the spirit of the invention. I, therefore, do'not wish to be limited to the precise details of construction set forth, but desire tofavil myself of such variations and modifications as come within the scope of the appended claim.
I -Iaif'ing described my invention' what I l claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
A bottle cover comprising a cover member adapted tolit within the mouth of a bottle to rest upon the ordinary closing disk therein and provided with a centra-l recess and a raised edge flange adapted to contact with the edges of the bottlemouth; and ja spring vwire cork screw member mounted for limited llongitudinal 'movement in said recess and projecting therefrom, substantiallyl described. v v
In testimony whereof I have signed. my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.'
