To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, HUGH H. PADGETT and LOUIS L. BooKoUT, citizens of the United States, residing. at Lindale in the county of Smith and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a Knockdown Frame, of which the following is a specification.
Our invention relates to a knockdown frame, and particularly relates to a knockdown frame for supporting a block and tackle. I
The object of our invention is to provide a frame which may be quickly set up and taken down, and which will support a block and tackle forthe purpose of raising a certain receptacle after the same has been loaded with sand or gravel, the same being Of such a size and form that a wagon may be driven beneath the same after said receptacle has been hoisted, and the contents of the receptacle may be discharged into the wagon.
Another object of the invention is to providea device for-locking the fall rope of the block and tackle after the load has been,
raised.
Finally the object of our invention is to provide a device of the character described that will be strong, durable, simple and eflicient and comparatively easy to construct.
With these and various other objects in view, our invention has relation to certain novel features of the construction and operation, an example of which is described in the following specification, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of our knock-clown frame. Fig. 2 is a view of the same in front elevation, certain parts being broken away. Fig. 3 is a detail sectional view, the section being taken upon the line a'm of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a detail sectional view showing the device for locking the fall rope after the load has been raised by the block and tackle. Fig. 5 is another view of the same mechanism.
In the drawings like reference characters are employed to designate similar parts in the several views.
Our frame primarily comprises three members, two of which are of triangular shape and are vertically mounted, and the third of which is mounted transversely between the upper extremities of the side members. Each of the side members is formed by two oppositely inclined beams 1 bolted together at their upper ends and rigidly connected at their lower ends by a hori- Zontal member 2. The transverse member, which is separable from the two upright side members, comprises a pair of spaced parallel beams 3 bolted to the lower end of two beams a inclining toward each other at an acute angle with the members 3 and rigidly connected at their upper extremities. The opposing faces of the members '3 are correspondingly slotted adjacent to the extremities of said members as indicated at 5, the slots 5 being so shaped as to fit snugly over the upper ends of the two side frames. Thus when the transverse member is mounted in the proper relation to the side members of our frame, the inclined faces of the members 1 form seats for the slotted ends of the transverse member.
A further support for the extremities of the transverse member is furnished by the two horizontal timbers 6 respectively bolted to the inner faces of the side members of our frame, a short distance below the upper ends of said side members.
A staple 7 is mounted at the juncture of the members 1 beneath the said members which staple forms a support for the upper block 8 of a block and tackle. The fall rope of the block and tackle is designated by the numeral 9 and the fall pulley by the numeral 10.
In one of the side members of the frame, there is embodied a vertical beam 11, disposed in a symmetrical relation to the beams 1, of the side frame with which said beam 11 is correlated. In the lower portion of the beam 11 there is formed a transverse slot 12, upon the floor of which is rigidly secured a bracket 13 having in its top a slight groove 1e. Upon the inner face of the vertical member 11 opposite to the slot 12, there is mounted a small bracket 15 in which is supported a small spindle 16 the extremities of which furnish a pivotal support for a lever 17 projecting outwardly from the frame, said lever having a yoke formed on its pivoted end the sides of which yoke are disposed adjacent to the side faces of the member 11. The sides of the yoke 18 serve as bearings for a spindle 19 parallel to the spindle 16 and passing through vertical slots 20 formed in the side walls of the slot 12. Centrally within the slot 12, a pulley 21 is mounted fast upon the spindle 19, the fall rope of the block and tackle being passed through the slot 12 and carried on the pulley 21 beneath the same. When the lever 17 is subjected toan angular downward displacement about the axis formed by the pintle16, the fall rope will be clamped between the pulley 21 and the bracket 13. In order that the lever may be firmly held in a position to lock the fall rope, a ratchet rack 22 is formed upon the in its elevated position without necessity of maintaining a strain on the end portion of the fall rope. A wagon may then be driven between the side members of the frame and beneath the transverse member thereof and when the wagon is beneath the receptacle, the contents of the latter may be discharged into the wagon bed.
The above described frame may be reduced to a very compact form when being transported from place to place and may be very'quickly set up or taken down.

l. A knockdown frame comprising two triangular upright side members, and athird member rigidly connecting the upper extremities of the side members, said third member comprising two parallel timbers, secured at each side of two members inclining upwardly toward each other, the last named members being rigidly connected at their upper ends.
2. A; knock-down frame, comprising two triangular upright I side members, 7 and a third member comprising two parallel timbers secured at each side of two timbers inclining upwardly toward each other, and rigidly connected at their upper ends, the opposite faces of said parallel timbers being grooved at their extremitiesto receive the pointed upper'ends of the side members.
