Application filed December 20, 1912. lSerial. No. 737,834.
To all 'wi-1.0m it may concern.'
13e it known that 1, RUDOLPH Rxirsnir, a citizen of the United States, and resident of St. Louis, Missouri, have invented a certain new and useful Improvement in Combined Laundry Gas-Stoves and `Washing-Machine Boilers, of which the following is a speci- Iication containing a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to theaccompanying drawings, forming hereof.
My invention relates to an improvement in washing machine boilers, and consists in the novel construction hereinafter described and specifically designated in the appended claim.
The object of my invention is to provide an improved gas heating attachment for washing machine boilers, wherein the water necessary for the laundry Work may be heated within the washing machine boiler itself.
In the drawings Figure 1 is a -sectional side-elevation of a washing machine boiler having my invention applied thereto; Fig. 2 is a sec-tional top plan view of the same; Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the upper portion of the washing machine boiler,l the lower portion being broken away.
The-numeral 1 indicates the body of the washing machine boiler, which may be square in form as shown, or may be circular or of any other desired shape. The top of the boiler is normally closed by means of a cover 2 secured to the boiler by the hinges 3. The vertical sides of the boiler 1 are pref erably made of corrugated metal as shown.
Mounted as usual in the hinged cover 2 is the ordinary washing machine rubber 41 for the purpose of agitating the clothes within the boiler. Said rubber 4 is provided with braces 5, and its shaft 6 projects upwardly beyond the cover so that motion may be imparted thereto by means of a common handle (not shown), or a motorconnection therewith.
A series of vertical round rubbing bars 7 are located in each corner of the boiler 1, with their lower ends soldered or otherwise secured to the bottom of the boiler, while their upper ends are soldered or otherwise secured to the upper end of a plate 8 which is xed in each corner of the boiler, above the upper ends of said rods beneath said cover 2.
apart rlhe boiler 1 is mounted upon a burnercasing 9 in which is mounted a common gasburner 10 supplied with gas and air through a fiexible tube or other common connection 11 controlled by a valve 12 located upon the exterior of said casing. y
The numeral 13 indicates a common support for the gas-burner.
The burner-casing` 9 is provided with a door-opening 111 for affording access to the burner 10, and said opening is normally closed by a common hinged door 15.
n The burner-casing 9 is supported by a series of legs 1G, the upper ends of which are in the form of horizontal arms extending beneath and secured to the bottom of the casing by means of rivets or bolts 17 passing through lateral flanges on said horizontal arms and through apertures in the bottomof said casing. Binding and bracing strips 18 extend continuously across a considerable portion of the vertical body of the legs 16 upwardly at each corner of the burner-casing 9, completely across the latter and across the boiler 1, and said strips are secured to lateral flanges on said legs by means of bolts or rivets 19, and are secured by solder throughout the remainder of their length to the said burner-casing and to the boiler, thereby securely tying together the three structures above named.
\ rhe numeral 2 0 indicates an outlet-pipe applied to the upper portion of the burnercasing 9, for carrying therefrom the products of combustion.
The numeral 21 indicates a common faucet by means of which the soiled water may be discharged from the said. boiler 1. Said faucet 21 is preferably provided with a hoseconnection 22, whereby a common hose may be applied thereto for the purpose of connecting said faucet with a water supply to be used in filling the boiler with fresh water when desired.
The numeral 25 indicates a pair of common arms which extend at an angle upwardly and outwardly from the side of said waslrboiler proper 1, to' support a washboard or4 any other desired article, the lower ends of said arms being secured to said boiler by means of suitable rivets.
rThe operation of lmy'invention will be readily apparent without further description.
v The said horizontal bottom-supportingioo arms of the said legs 16 act very efficiently to support the fiexible sheet metal bottom of 4the"'sa.id burner-containng casing '9, and Without said supporting-arms the said bot-` toni would bulge downwardly. Furthermore, vthe said"b'ottbni-supporting-arms act as braces for the said legs 1Q;

In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specilication, presence voftwo.
