To all whom; it may concern Be it known that I, JOHN E. PECKEN- PAUGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Franklin, in the county of Robertson and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire- Clamps, of which the following is a specification, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to certain improvements in wire clamps and has relation more particularly to a device of this general character especially designed and adapted for use in connection with a fence produced from a woven wire fabric and the object of the invention is to provide a device of this general character having means of a novel and improved character whereby a convenient and effective clamping engagement may be created with the several longitudinal strands of the wire.

The invention consists in the details of construction and in the combination and.

arrangement of the several parts whereby certain important advantages are attained and the device is rendered simpler, less expensive and otherwise more convenient and advantageous for use, all as will be hereinafter more fully set forth;

The novel features of the invention will be carefully defined in the appended claim.

In order that my invention may be the better understood, I will now proceed to describe the same with reference to the ac companying drawings, wherein- Figure 1 is a view in side elevation of a wire clamp constructed in accordance with my invention, and shown in applied position, a part thereof being broken away; Fig. 2 is a view partly in end elevation and partly in section illustrating certain details of the invention as herein contained; and Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view in elevation illustrating a further detail of the invention, as herein embodied.

As disclosed in the accompanying drawings, 1 denotes an elongated member preferably formed of steel although I do not wish to be understood as limiting myself to any particular kind of material. This member 1 is adapted to be disposed longitudinally of the woven fabric adapted to constitute a part of the fence, and suitably aflixed thereto at proper intervals are the plates 2 substantially L-shaped in cross section and through which are adapted to be projected the longitudinal strands of the fabric. While these plates may be secured .to be swung relatively to the base of the plate 2 and to clamp the wire 3 which may be positioned within said plate, it being understood that the cam 5 is of a thickness less than the space or distance between the stems of the plate 2, in order that the wire strand 3 may be readily and conveniently positioned within the plate beneath the cam. Each of the cams is provided with a forwardly extended arm or projection, which are disposed in the same plane and have their outer ends pivotally attached, as at 6, to the rod or bar 7 whereby it will be seen that upon endwise movement being imparted to the bar or rod 7 that the several cams 5 may be adjusted into or out of clamping engagement.

In order to effectually manipulate the rod or bar 7, I provide the lever 8 pivotally connected to the member 1 at substantially its longitudinal center, said lever being also pivotally connected at 9, with the bar or rod 7. The lever is extended, as indicated at 10, beyond the bar or rod 7 to afford an operating handle whereby the requisite endwise movement'to the bar or rod 7 may be accomplished with convenience and facility. The handle or lever portion 10 is provided with the spring-controlled latch 11 adapted to coact with the segmental rack 12 carried by the bar or member 1 whereby it will be seen that the cams 5 may be positively locked and maintained in their different adjustments.

The member 1 has suitably anchored, as at 12, and adjacent each extremity a flexible member 14 (herein shown as a linked chain) which may be of any preferred length and which has its outer or free extremity terminating in an engaging member 15 adapted to cooperate with a stretcher or any other object as the necessities of practice may dietate.

From the foregoing description of my improvement, it is thought to be obvious that a wire clamp constructed in accordance with my invention is of an extremely simple and comparatively inexpensive nature and v myself to the precise arrangement and for-.
