Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July ist, i914.
Application mea nay 1s, 1912. serial no. 698,232.
To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, FREDERICK WAcI-ITER, a citizen of the Unit-ed States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Ampul-Holders, of which the following is a specilication, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
The invention relates to holders for liquid containers and more particularly to containers for liquids used in hypodermic needles.
In the present state of the art such fluids arel narrowed at the angle or bend so as to pro- 'vide inwardly projecting lugs G. These lugs form seats for the body of the ampul after the insertion of the neck portion through the narrow slot G and ret-ain it 1 from slipping out of the holder.
usually placed in small glass containers having elongated, tubular necks which are hermeti-cally sealed. When the contents is to be used the end of the neck is broken oliE and the hypodermic needle inserted therein so that the' Huid is drawn into the needle without possibility of contact with the external atmosphere or anything that might contamiof a. strip of cardboard, and to give stability Inasmuch as the needle is seldom long f when in use the strip is extended and the extension is bent downward into parallelism 'to the apert-ured side. E portions are engaged with the box or package A which latter fo-rms the supportingA base. To give further stability the side E2 iis preferably xed to the inner end of the box A and extends upward therefrom, but is limited in height to clear the cover.
nate.
enough for insertion through the neck to the` bottom of the vessel it is necessary to invert diiiiculty I have devised a construction of holder for the containers aor ampuls, which is adapted to support the same in inverted and inclined position, permitting the operator to insert the needle and to withdraw all of the fluid contents. I have further devised a construction of holder adapted to be contained in or form a part of the package in which the liquid containers or ampuls are shipped, thereby insuring its presence when-v ever needed for use. The invention therefore consists in t-he construction as. hereinafter set forth.
In the drawings: Figure l is a perspective view of the package for the liquid containers or ampuls with the cover removed and showing the holder. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the holder adjusted for use and one of the ampuls in engagement therewith. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the sealed ampul or container. Y
A is the package in which the liquld containers or ampuls are ship-ped and which as shown is divided by partitions B and C into a plurality of compartments, each of which is adapted to receive an ampul. The elongated necks of these ampuls project upward beyond lthe compartments of the package, and to provide clearance therefor the cover D extends upward to the required height.
My improved holder comprises an angle strip E which is apertured in the top and side for the reception of the ampul or container in inclined position with its neck eX- tending downward. To facilitate the insertion of the ampul into this holder a continuous slot F is formed therein to extend from the top E to the side E2, said slot being The holder as described can be formed out These two parallel The top 'portion E and the extension H thereof will thus lie adjacent to the top of the cover D so as to clear all of t-he ampuls in the package, and as the bend between the side 'E2 and top E is flexible, the latter may be readily turned up out of the way when the ampuls are withdrawn from the package. The extension H when bent downward is supported upon the central partition B and is preferably slotted at I to embrace said partition. Thus with aconstruction so simple Vas to neither increase the cost nor the weight of the package appreciably, anelicient holder for the ampuls is provided.
`What I claim as my invention is:
1. The combination with a package for a plurality of liquid containers, said package including a bottom and side and end walls, of an angle strip secured tothe body of the package and extending above the side walls thereof, saidstrip having means for holding la container above and free from the side and end walls of the body of the package in position for withdrawing the Huid contents therefrom.
' of a strip having an upright portion lyingv 2. The combination with a package for a plurality of` liquid containers including a bottom, side and end walls, and a removable cover, of an angle strip secured to the body of the package, said angle strip extending above the bodv portion of the package and lying adjacent to the side and top of thel cover, 'the strip being apertured to form a'seat to support a container above the space within the package for the containers in'a position for withdrawing the fluid contents.
3. rlhe combination with a package for liquid containers vand a removablel cover therefor of a ,strip having an upright portion adjacent to one end of the body of said package and an angle portion flexibly hinged to said upright portion and lying adjacent to the top of said cover, said portions being ape'rtured to form a retaining seat for a container in a posit-ion for withdrawing the fluid contents thereof'.
4. The combination with a package com-` prising a rectangular box having partitions dividing same into a plurality of compartments for individually holding liquid containers and a removable cover for said box,
adjacent to one end of said package and an angle portion overlying said containers adjacent to the top of said cover, said'angle portion being connected to said upright portion by a flexible bend and being also provided with a second flexible bendpermitting a portion thereof to be arranged parallel to said upright portion with its lower end in engagement with said partitions, said c, strip being apertured to forma retaining seat for a container in position for withdrawing the fluid contents.
5. The combination with a package 'for containers, of an angular supporting mem ber secured to one end of the package, slots narrowing at the angle or bend of said supporting member to form oppositely disposed lugs tohold the container in inverted position.
G. The combination with a package for containers, of an upright secured to the box, and extending above the body of the box, a top portion integral with the upright, said upright and top portion provided with apertures, an extension brace member secured to the top and parallel with the upright adaptl ed to engage the package.
7. The combination with a package for a plurality'ofl liquid containers, said package includin a bottom and side and end walls, of an in ependent container support secured -to the package and having means for holding a container in inverted posit-ion above the space in the package for the containers and free from the side and end Walls of the package.
8. The combination with a package for a plurality of liquid containers, said package including a bottom, side and end walls, and
`a removable cover, of an independent container support connected to the package to occupy a position within the same as a part the'reof, said container support having means Y for holding a container in inverted position above the space in the package for the container and free from the side and end walls of the package.
9. The combination with a package for la plurality of liquid containers including a bottom, and side and end walls, of an independent container support constructed and arranged to hold a container in inverted position above the walls of the package, said container support comprising a part extending upwardly from the`top of one of the walls of the package, and an upper portion movably connected to said part to extend over the space Within the package for the containers and movable outwardly from over the space within the package to permit containers to be placed within and removed from the package.
ln testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
