STORM-VEHIGLE-DOOR LOCK.
Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS Il. PARRY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianapolis, in the county of Marion and State of Indiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Storm-Vehicle Door Locks, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in storm-proof vehicles having closed tops with side-doors which are slidingly suspended from horizontal overhead tracks, and the ob* ject of the invention is to provide a simple, durable and positive means for locking the door against rattling in its open or closed position or at any intermediate positions.
rlhe object of the invention is accomplished by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a view in vertical section of a portion of a storm-proof vehicle containing my invention;` Fig. 2 is a detail on a larger scale in vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3 of the clamping device shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is an elevation as viewed from the inside of the vehicle top of the device shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a side view of the clamp and cam lever of the clamping device used by me, with the inner plate removed, and Fig. 5 is a view of the inside of the inner clamping plate which is used in connection with the parts illustrated in Fig. 1.

6 is a panel of a vehicle box-body, 7 a seat, 8 a pillar secured to the end of the seat and extending vertically therefrom and forming a part of the stationary side of the closed top of the vehicle. f
9 is a horizontal side member of the deck which is supported by the pillars 8, and 10 one of the bows to support the top.
The deck member 9 is rabbeted at its lower inner side, and secured to the under edge of the deck member 9 is a track 11 of an angle iron, the inner vertical flange of which forms a track for hangers 12 by which a sliding door 13 is hung. The hangers 12 have ball bearings to contact with the track 11, as shown, which not only reduce the friction when the door 13 is moved longitudinally of the track, but also reduce the friction incident to the lateral adjustment of the door as required in the operation of my invention.
The lower end of the door 13 is provided with a hook 14k to engage the top of the panel (iv and prevent the lower end of the door from swinging outwardly away from the vehicle body. To permit the door 18 to slide back and forth freely and without binding a wide or open hook on the hanger 12 is required, and this looseness permits of much lateral` movementof the door occasioned by the passage of the vehicle over rough and uneven roads. This causes a rat tling and noise which is objectionable to the occupants of the vehicle.
I have found that by applying a pressure from the inside of the vehicle against the top of the door 13 that the latter will swing as though pivoted on its hook 14C until arrested by contact of the inner stem of hanger 12 against the vertical flange of track 11, and that by applying sa-id pressure thus to the top of the door the latter will be eEectually locked at both upper and lower ends of the door against rattling.
rIhe means which I have employed for applying the pressure to the inside top of the door comprises a footpiece 16 having a body at right angles to enter a slot in a housing 17 which is secured by means of screws to the pillar 8. The body portion entering the housing 17 has a shoulder 18 which is contacted by a cam shaped flange 19 integral with a plate 2O which is pivotally secured to the housing 17 by p-in 21. The plate 2O has a handle 22 by which it is rocked to cause its cam flange 19 to press the foot 16 by contact with the body extension of the latter, against the top of the door 13. A pin 23 on the body engages the inner side of the cam shaped flange 19 to withdraw the foot 16 when the handle 22 is properly moved. This is only a preferred construction, as it is obvious that many of the various forms of cam or eccentric levers may be used for forcing the top of the door 13 in an outward direction, and while in this and other respects I have shown and described the best embodiment of my invention now known to me, I do not desire to be limited to the exact construction shown, but- What I do claim as new and wish to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. The combination of a panel of a vehicle box-body, a top-deck member rabbeted at its lower inner edge, an angle-iron track having one flange secured to the deck-member and another liange entering the rabbet of the deck-member, a door, means on the door slidingly engaging the top of the panel of the body and holding the lower end of t-he door in constant close relation to the panel, hook-shaped hangers on the door loosely ernbracing the track, and means for swinging the top oi the door into clamping engagement of its hangers with said track.
2. The combination of a panel of a vehicle- `f body, a top-deck member rabbeted at its lower inner ledge, a top pillar supporting said deck from the vehicle-body, an angleiron track having one lange secured to the Y' deck-member and another flange entering the rabbet of the deckfmeinber, a door, ay
hook on the door slidingly engaging the top of the panel of the body and holding the lower end of the door in constant close relation to the panel, hook-shaped hangers on the door loosely embracing lthe track, ball bearings between the hangers and the top of v the track, and means secured to the pillar for swingingthe top of the door into clamping engagement of its hangers with said track. l
