The present invention relates to improvements in that type of governor devices for explosive engines set forth in my prior application filed May th, 1913, Serial Num ber 767,817.
The object in the present instance is to provide a throttling control for the fuelcharge entering a hydrocarbon engine which will be automatically operated at: a predeterniined pressure of. the suction through the intake ofsaid engine, and which is accomplished by the provision of a. valve=on a longitudinally movable shaft mounted in a threaded 'ournal, which shaft also carries a rotary governor for imparting movement to said shaft and valve to control the operative area of the passage through said intake. In conjunction with the foregoing it is contemplated, as in-my previous appllcation abovereferred to, to. employ tensioning means for regulating the 'sensitiveness of: operation.- of the rotary governorcooperating with the valveofmy device.
For afull understanding of invention, reference is to be had to the following description and the accompanying drawings, in which:

Throughout the following detail description, and on'the several figures of the drawings, similar parts are referred to by like reference characters.
Referring to the drawing and specifically describing my invention, the numeral 1 represents a casing which is adapted to be inserted as a portion of the intake manifold of an explosive engine in a manner described in my prior application h'ereinbe'fore referred to. The casing preferably comprises removable reduced ends 2 and 3 having threaded connection with the main body portion 1, as shown most clearly in Fig. 1

The valve seat 7 is formed by a transverse partition7 located in the upper reduced end 2. of the casing 1. Near the opposite end of the shaft 4 said shaft is enlarged and formed with quick advancing threads 8 which threaded portion of the shaft is disposed: inan internally threaded journal 9 at one end of the frame 5. Direct-1y adjacent this threaded portion of the shaft 4 andatthe lower end of said shaft is secured a fan or rotary governor 10, while disposed about said shaft intermediate its journals is a spiral spring 11. One end of the spring 11 is secured to said shaft at the point indicated by the numeral 12, while its opposite end is secured to a pinion 13 which inion ismounted free upon the shaft 4 a jaoent the upper journal of said shaft, as mostclearly shown in Fig. 3 of the drawing. Extending transversely through the casing is 'an' operating shaft 14 having intermediate its length within the casing a worm l5 intermeshing with the pinion 13 on the shaft 4.

Inthe-use of my invention 1t-w1ll be un- I derstood. that: when the suction of the fuel charge through the casing 1 reaches a predetermined. pressure suflicient to overcome the tension of the spring 11 upon the shaft 4, said suction pressure will rotate the fan governor 10 and thereby rotate the shaft in its threaded journal 9. The threads 8 of the shaft will cause a longitudinal movement of the same tending to thrust the valve 6 toward its seat 7 to more or less close the operative opening through the casing 1 as will be obvious. The amount of charge admitted to the hydrocarbon engine will therefore be controlled and the point of operation of the valve may readily be predetermined by an adjustment of the operating shaft 14 so as to increase or decrease the tension of the spring 11'. As soon as the pressure of the suction through the casing is reduced the valve 6 withdraws from its seat and permits the free passage of the charge through the opening in the partition 7 Having thus described the invention, what Iclaim asnew is: v. a. 1. A governor for explosive engines comprising a casing, a valve in said casing, a fan governor normally inactive, a shaft con necting the valve with the governor, and means for imparting longitudinal movement 10 to the shaft to cause seating of the valve upon rotation of the fan governor by excess pressure-of suction through the casing.

A governor for explosive engines comprising a casing, a valve in said casing, a fan governor, a shaft connecting the valve with the governor, means for imparting longitudinal movement to the shaft to cause seating of the valve upon rotation of the fan governor by suction through the casing, and means for tensioning the shaft to control operation of the governor and maintain the same normally inactive.

A governor for explosive engines comprising a casing, a threaded shaft journaled 2a in said casing. a valve at oneend of said shaft, a seat for said valve, arotary governor mounted on said shaft, and, means cooperating with the threaded portion of the shaft whereby to impart longitudinal movement to the latter tending to seat the valve "upon rotation of the governor.

5. A governor for exploslve engines comprising a casing, a frame disposed in said casing, a shaft ournaled in said frame and having a threaded portion coiiperating with,
a correspondingly threaded journal, a valve carried by said shaft, and a rotary governor connected tosaid shaft for rotating the latter to..thereby. impart longitudinal movement't'o"the'shaft.wherely to cause seating of the valve and closure of the passage through said casing.

A governor for explosive engines comprising a casing, a frame disposed in said casing, a shaft journaled in said frame and having a threaded 'portion'cooperating with a correspondingly threaded journal, a valve seat adjacent one end of the frame, a valve secured to said shaft intermediate the seat and the frame aforesaid, a fan governor for rotating the shaft secured to the other end of said shaft, a spring disposed about and se cured to said shaft, and means for tensioning said spring and shaft to control operation of the fan governor,

A governor for explosive engines comprising a casing, a frame disposed in said casing, a shaft journaled in said frame and having a threaded portion cooperating with a correspondingly threaded journal, a valve seat adjacent one end of theframe, a valve secured to-said shaft intermediate the seat and the frame aforesaid, a fan governor for rotating the shaft secured to theother end of said shaft, a spring disposed about and secured to said shaft, a transverse operating rod extending through said casing, a worm on said operating rod, and a pinion. freely k mounted on the shaft aforesaid and meshing with the worm on the operating rod, whereby to regulate thetension of said sprlng and shaft to control operation of the fan governor. a
