Description
.IoIIN nAUscH, oF HUNTINGTON, INDIANA Letters Patent No. 110,285, dated December 20, 1870; anted'ated December 9, 1870.
\ IMPROVEMENT IN BOOT-CRIMPING MACHINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern Beit known that I, JOHN Rensen, of Huntington, in thecounty of Huntington and State of Indiana, have invented a new and improved Boot- Crimpiug Machine; and I do hereby declare'that the following is a. full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art .to make and use the saine, reference being had tothe accompanying drawing forming part of this specification.
Figure 1 represent-sa side. elevation, partly in section, of my improved boot-crimping machine.
Figure 2 is a. vertical transverse section of the same. l
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention relates to machines for crimping boots,
v and consists in an improved combination of parts,
which will be specified hereinafter.
The invention consists chieiiy in k*the use of a pivoted lever to which the crimping-boards of suitable sine can be secured, and in combination with the said lever of a pair of laterally-adjustable stationary jaws,
as hereinafter more fully described.'
A in the drawing represents the bed or supporting 4platform of my improved crimping-machineY From it projects a xed post, a, to the upper end of which the carrying-lever B is pivoted.
This lever B is shaped somewhat like an inverted letter V, with a downward projecting ear, b, at its outer end.
A screw, C, is fitted through the ear b, as shown.
D is the crimping-lever, of suitable size.
It is fastened to the lever B by means of the screw O and by another screw, E, which is tted through a slot inV the lever.
The said screwE holds the foot N of the crimpingboard by means of a pin, c, projecting therefrom.
' The screw G presses against the upper end of the crimping-board.
F F are two vertical plates, set upon the bed A below the lever B, upon both sides of a vertical fixed standard, G.
The plates F constitute the crimping-jaws, and are secured against the support G by a screw, (I, or other equivalent fastening, so that they can. be laterali y adj usted.
A rubber cushion vmay be placed between the jaws F, upon the support G.
The leather to be crimped is laid upon the jaws and the lever is thenswung down upon it, so that the board D will 'enter between the jaws to form the leather into the desired shape.
A screw can be fitted through the middle of the lever B and connected with a clamp, by which itcan serve to stretch the leather around the crimpingboard in the-usual manner.
It will be seen that the screwscan be used to hold crimping-boards of suitable size.`
A handle may be applied to the lever if desired, but can be dispensed with.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, with a crimping-board D, of a lever B B, constructed as shown in iig. l of drawing, and provided wit-h set screws C E, as and for the purpose described.
JOHN RAUSCH.
