Description

acta saai attic/ccm.
Letters Patent No. 110,284dated December 20,` `18'2'0.
IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING-BED BOTTOMS.
The Schedule referredto in these Lettera Eatent and making part of the same.
To whom it 'indy concern 15e it known that I, J AMES-HENRY Q UAGKENBUSH,
of Luddington, in the county-of Mason and State ot' Michigan, have invented a new and useful Improve-` mentin Spring-bottom Bedsteads; and I do declare that the following is a true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawing and to the lettersot' reference marked thereon and beinga part of tliis specification, in which my improved bed-l stead is shown in perspective. The nature of this invention relates to an improved construction of a bedstead, sol arranged that the slats which form the bottom, nponfwhich to place the mattresses, will have a vertical spring. The invention consists in the arrangement anticombination of the various parts, as more fully hereinafter described. i
In the accompanying drawing A represents the side rails, and B the head and Y fouet-boards of -a bedstead of ordinary construction.
'lo tlie head and foot-boards, and upon the inner sides thereof, are secured,.in Ia vertical position, the
ribs C, the spaces a between which are oi1 the width of the bottom longitudinal slats D.
The ribs are provided with shoulders Evnpon the top, to which is secured the elastic strap F, upon which the ends of the horizontal bottom slats D rest.
Then the weight of persons occupying the bed is imposed thereon, the elastic strap allows a vertical springing motion of the slats, which are retained in place by the ribs, the whole forming a very economical and easy spring-hed.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The ribs C, provided vwith shoulders E and the elastic strap F, in combination with the head and footboards ot' a bedstead, and the bottom slats D, when arranged to operate as herein set forth.
