To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, \VooLMAN G. \Vrnrn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented new and useful In'iprovements in Line- Casting Machines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in line-casting machines, and more especially to those of the linotype class, and the primary-object of the invention is to provide relatively simple and eilicient means Whereby single type may be produced simultaneously and in conjunction with the production of the usual lines of type, the casting of the single type well as the trimming and ejecting thereof being preferably effected by the same mechanisms which perform these functions with respect to the slugs or lines of type, thereby avoiding the necessity of providing duplicate sets of mechanisms as well as simplifying the con-- struction, and also enabling the present invention to be applied directly to linotype machines of the types now in use and Without requiring modifications or alterations thereof. 4
To these and other ends, the invention consists in certain improvements, and combinations and arrangements of parts, all as will be hereinafter more fully described, the novel features being pointed out particularly in the claims at the end of the specification,

It is, of course, to he understood that the auxiliary mold is in the same plane with the mold which costs the slugs or lines of type and when the spout of the metal pot is in t'oopcrative relation w'th the line-easting mold, it also cor'uperates with the auxiliary single type casting mold and, hence, each operation of the machine to cast a line of type sierves to cast a single type. For this purpose, the mold slide is provided with an auxiliary ejector 256 which is capable of movement longitudinally with respect to the ejector slide and it capable of being locked in a manner to re ciprocate in unison with the ejector slide by a lug 37 on the auxiliary ejector which is adapted to cooperate with a latch 38. When the line-casting and auxiliary molds are in ejecting position, the cavities thereof will register respectively with the ejectors 35 and 3(5 and the operative stroke of the ejector slide \vill cause the slug and the single type to be simultaneously ejected from their rcspeotive molds. The usual galley 39 may he provided to receive the slugs or lines of type, and an auxiliary or supplemental gab ley it) may he provided beneath it to receive the single type. A bridge piece 41 may he provided to insure a'proper transfer of the single type from the auxiliary mold to the galley 40. In operation, the mold wheel carrying the line-casting mold and the auxiliary single type mold is brought in the usual manner to the casting point.
