IMPROVEMENT IN I .UBRIC'ATORS- The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making pari: of the same.
To all wllmnj Quay concern:
Be it knoivnffchat I, T noams J. NOTTINGHAM, of.
Cincinnati,}-Hamilton county, State of Ohio, have in-v vented a certain-new and useful Improvement Ain Talby two valves,ea ch' arranged to be closed when the Aother is open. l
Description of the Accompanying Dra-wing@ Figure 'Lis an arial section of my. lubricator, showmg the charging-chamber in communication With-the cup or `general receiver.
-chamberin :cominnnication with the discharge-orifice.
General Description.
i A iS the cup proper 'or general receiver for the ta1` lo\v,and l B, the charging-chamber.
vC is the cap of. the cup.
It is constructed with an annular groove, c, for the receptionof the gasket, which groove is sufficiently deep to permit the annular projection a on the cup to enter it, and thus permitthe cup, in expanding under heat, to'tghten the joint, The cover is also provided with an annular lip, c, to tit oventhe edge ofthe cup for the pnrposeof limitingr the expansion of thecnp underlie-at, and thus, vin
addition to the devicea c, causing the. cup to make 'its own-joint when-hot.
and I d o herebydeclare the following` Figure 2 isasimilar'section, showing thecharging-V 'lhe cap or' cover C is also vfitted witlithe customary wooden top C.
D is a common conical valve, designed to govern the Sow of tallow to the chamber B; and
E, a conical valve t0 govern `the discharge of tallow `from the chamber B to the part t0 be lubricated.
' The port (l conveys the tallmvfrox-nythe cup A to the chamber B, and the port c conducts it to the discharge-orifice jl The valve D is forced toits seat bythe spiral spring F, which is suicieutly strong to resist the pressure 0l' steam .below the valve, and itis raised bythe valve E, whose conical face impinges against the stemof thevalve D and thns forces it from its seat.
Operation.
When the valve E is closed,'the valve D being forced from itsseat and thus opened, the tallow is -permitted to run fromthe cup A into the chamber v and fillthe same.
Then it is necessary to discharge the tallow the valve E is opened 'and the valve D'thns 'permitted'to' fall. The communication is'theneut oi from the chambeIfB to the cup A, bntlthe chamber B freely discharges its contents in to the discharge-pipef.
Claim. I A `I claimr y inthe described connection with the Achambers 'A B,
the Valves D E, opcrating as described, and for the p urpose specified..-
In testimony ol' which invention I herennto'set my hand.
THOS. J. NOTTINGHAM.
