To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FABIJAN KovAoIo, a subject of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, residing in the city of Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Self-Cleansing Cuspidor, of which the following is a specification.

My invention is an improved self-cleansing euspidor comprising a receptacle containing a carrier operated by a motor, in combination with means for wiping the carrier and flushing the apparatus.

Its primary object is to provide inoffenslve and sanitary means for the reception and removal of spittal and refuse or waste matter.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view of a euspidor embodying my invention, the section being taken on the line 11 of Fig. 3; Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional View of the same taken on the line 22 of Fig. 3; and Fig. 3 is a horizontal sectional view taken on the line 33 of Fig. l.

The euspidor, in the form illustrated in the drawings, comprises the receptacle 1 having the hopper or conical inlet 2 at its top and a bottom 3 converging downwardly to an outlet 4 which is connected with a discharge pipe or conduit 5.

An axle 6 is carried in bearings 7 and 8 supported by the receptacle, a sleeve 9 is journaled on the axle, and a water wheel 10 and a ball 11 are fixed together on the sleeve so as to be revoluble on the axle. The ball is centrally placed beneath the hopper and the water wheel is disposed exterior to an apron 12 depending from the top of the receptacle so as to surround the lower end of the hopper which extends therein. A ring 13, carried by the apron 12 around the bottom of the hopper, supports wires 11 having eyes 15 strung thereon to form a brush making contact with the ball 11 which is thereby brushed as it revolves so that adhering matter is loosened and removed from its surface, an apron 12 depending from the apron 12 serving to catch any matter thrown up by the revolving ball.

A water pipe 16, containing valves 17 and 18, is connected with a channel 19 extending around the top of the hopper 2 and having a bottom outlet 20 by which it discharges over the inner surface thereof upon the ball 11, the valve 18 being fixed on the top of the receptacle 1. A valve 21, supported on the receptacle 1, connects the pipe 16, at a point between the valves 17 and 18, with a nozzle 22 disposed within the receptacle and adapted to deliver Water to the wheel 10. The several parts are preferably made of metal which will not corrode readily, particularly the parts that are exposed. In operation, the several valves are set to pass the quantity of water necessary to flush the hopper 2 and the ball 11 and to drive the wheel 10 so as to revolve the ball, the mat ter contained in the euspidor being delivered with the water to the discharge pipe 5 and the ball being scoured by the wires 14:.

Having described my invention, I claim:

1. A euspidor comprising a receptacle having an inlet, a carrier journaled beneath said inlet on a substantially horizontal axis, a fluid motor for revolving said carrier, and means for cleaning said carrier.

2. A euspidor comprising areceptacle having an inlet, a journaled ball beneath said inlet, a fluid motor for revolving said ball, means for delivering a fluid to said motor, and means for flushing said ball and receptacle.

3. A euspidor comprising a receptacle having a hopper, a ball journaled beneath said hopper, a channel for delivering a fluid to said hopper and ball, a wheel for revolving said ball, and means for delivering a motive fluid to said wheel.

4. A euspidor comprising a receptacle having an outlet and a hopper provided with a water channel for flushing it, a ball journaled beneath said hopper, a water wheel fixed to said ball for revolving it, means for delivering water to said channel and wheel, and suspended wires for brushing the surface of said ball.
