UNTTED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GUSTAF V. LEINO, 0F COVINGTON, MICHIGAN.
PLOW.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GUsTAF V. LEINO, a citizen of the United States, residing at Covington, in the county of Baraga, State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to clamps and particularly to a clamp adapted to secure a knife to the beam of a plow in advance of the mold board and land side to effectively sever roots raised with the soil during the operation of the plow.
A further object of the invention resides in thecprovision of a clamp for securing a knife in the manner stated and which will permit said knife to be adjusted in varlous conditions.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists in the details of construction in the arrangement and combination of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing the invention in detail reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in the several views, and in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a plow having the improved clamp associated therewith; Fig. 2, a view of a fragment of what is shown in Fig. 1 partly in section same being on an enlarged scale, and Fig. 3, a section on the line 33 of Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, 10 indicates the beam of the plow which carries at its forward end the usual clevis 11. Secured to the rear end of the beam 10 by means of bolts 12 is a land side 13. This land side is provided at its forward edge with an inwardly turned portion 14 and secured to the lower end of this inwardly turned portion by means of bolts 15 is the usual plow share 16. Also secured to the inwardly turned portion 14 inwardly of the share 16 is the forward edge of a mold board 17. The land side 13 and mold board 17 are connected by a brace bar 18 whereby said land Specification of Letters Patent.

side and mold board are held in proper relation at their rear end and strengthened at that point.
Secured to the rear end of the beam 10 is a handle 19 while another handle 20 is socured to the inner face of the mold board 17 at the inner end of the latter. These handles are suitably braced as at 21.
Secured to the land side in overlapping relation to the lower edge thereof is a shoe 22. This shoe 22 is provided with slotted ears 23 and 24 through which are engaged respectively bolts 25 which pass through the land side 13 and whereby said shoe may be adjusted vertically with respect to the plow.
Surrounding the beam 10 is a clamping frame 30 which is adapted to secure a knife 31 in advance of the mold board 17 and land side 13. This knife 31 is provided with a shank 32 which is disposed between the outer side of the beam 10 and the adjacent side of the frame 30, a plate 33 being interposed between the shank and the outer side of the beam 10, said plate having the side thereof adjacent the beam dished as at 34. Thread ed in the side of the frame 30 adjacent the inner side of the beam 10 is a set screw 35 which when operated to engage the inner side of the beam will clamp the shank 32 of the knife 31 between the outer side of the beam 10 and the adjacent side of the frame 30.
Rotatably mounted upon the side of the frame 30 adjacent top side of the beam 10 is a tubular member 36 having an eccentric bore 37. By reason of the eccentricity of the bore 37 it will be apparent that the tubular member 36 will act as a wedge when the free end of the knife tends to move inwardly and thereby automatically lock the knife against movement under the influence of such tendency. It will be further apparent that by adjusting the frame 30 upon the beam 10 the knife 31 may be adjusted relatively to the beam, while by sliding the shank 32 through the frame 30 the free end of the knife 31 may be adjusted toward and away from the share 16.
What I claim is The combination with a beam, of a clamping frame encircling the beam and adjustable thereon, means for clamping said frairie to the beam to secure an element between same and the beam, a tubular member rota: ment against movement under the influence 10 tably mounted on the side of said clamping of said tendency. 1 frame having its periphery in engagement In testimony whereof, I aflix my signa- With the beam, the bore of said tubular memture, in presence of two witnesses.
