ROBERT LUND AND THOMAS FREDERICK HIND, 0F PRESTON, ENGLAND.
COVER FOR OUTER LININGS FOR CYLINDERS.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, ROBERT LUND and THOMAS FREDERICK HIND, subjects of the King of England, residing at Preston in the county of Lancaster, England, have mvented certain new and useful Improvements in Covers for Outer Linings for Cylinders; and we do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in covers for outer linings for cylinders adapted to be used in connection with machines for the purpose of scouring or cleaning wheat or other grains.
An object of this invention is the provision of a cover of this nature, consisting of a plurality of sections which are segmental in cross section, and adapted whensecured together to form a cylindrical body.
Another object of this invention is the provision of a cover such as described consisting of a plurality of sections, some of which contain a coating of any abrasive substance, while others of the sections are suitably apertured for the purpose of admitting the passage of dust or the like from the grain therethrough into a suitable hopper or receptacle, not shown in the drawing.
A further object of this invention is to improve and simplify devices of this character, rendering them comparatively simple and inexpensive to manufacture, reliable and eflicient in use, and readily operated.
With the above and other 0 jects in View, this invention resides in the novel features of construction, formations, combinations and arrangements of parts to be hereinafter more fully described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 represents a complete cover built up of alternate sections of emery composition and sections of perforated plates; Fig. 2 represents a complete cover built up with one section of perforated metal and two sections of emery composition alternately; Fig. 3 is a plan view of one of the sections containing the emery composition; Fig. 4 is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 4-4c of Fig. 3; Fig. 5 is a plan view of Specification of Letters Patent.

the section which consists of a perforated plate; and Fig. 6 is a longitudinal sectional viewtaken on the line 66 of Fig. 5.
Referring to the drawings by characters of reference, the numeral 1 designates generally our improved lining, which consists of a plurality of sections 2 and 3, the said sections being segmental in cross section, and adapted when secured together to complete a cylinder, as will be clearly illustrated in the drawings.
The section indicated by the numeral 2 comprises a skeleton framework 4, consisting of opposite side and end bars 5 and 6 respec tively, the said skeleton sections adapted to contain a body of a composition, formed preferably of emery, granulated bur stone, or other similar. materials, with the usual binding ingredients, such as cement or the like, forming it into a homogeneous mass.
The sections 3, like the before-mentioned sections 2, are preferably rectangular-shaped in plan view and segmental in cross section, and consisting of plates 7, each of which are reinforced at their opposite ends, as in dicated by the numeral 8, to agree in thickness with that of the central portions of the sections 2, and are provided with series of apertures 9, through which dust, dirt or the like may be permitted to pass into a suitable hopper or other receptacle, not shown.
The contacting edges of the sections 2 and 3 are each provided with upstanding lugs 10, which are aliningly apertured, as indicated by the numeral 11, for the admission of bolts, rivets, or other suitable fastening devices, which serve to retain the various sections in their cylindrical arrangement.
From the foregoing disclosure, taken in connection with the accompanying draw- 'ings, it will be readily apparent that a covering or outer lining for cylinders of the nature described is provided for which will fulfil all of the necessary requirements of such a device.
Having thus fully described this invention, what we claim as new and desire to protect by Letters Patent is:
The herein described lining for cylinders comprising a plurality of rectangular open skeleton frames of metal having an abrasive composition composed of emery, granulated bur stone and cement placed Within said jacent edges of the frames and intermediate 10 frames While in a plastic condition, and insections to receive the securing bolts. termediate sections of metal provided With In testimony whereof We aflix our signatransverse slots, said sections being rectures in presence of two Witnesses.
