JEFFREY T. FEBRES, OF LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA, ASSIGNOR TO THE SEFTON MANU- FACTURINGCOMPANY, OI ANDERSON, INDIANA, CORPORATION OF INDIANA.
DOUBLE-FACED CORRUGATED PAPER-BOARD AND METHOD OF MAKING THE SAME.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JEFFREY T. Fame, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Double-Faced Corrugated Paper-Board and Method of' Making the Same, of which the following is a specifi cation.
My invention relates to paper board of double faced corrugated character and the object thereof is to produce a novel and eflicient board of this kind-and to provide a new and useful method of making the same.
Speaking in general terms, my new board comprises two facin strips and two interposed corrugated strips having their crowns opposed and secured to each other and my method of making'such board consists in applying an adhesive to the crowns of the corrugations of two sheets of single faced boards and bringing such sheets togetherwith their crowns in contact.
. In the drawing, Figure 1' is a perspective view illustrating my new constructlon of board;Fig. 2 a plan view of .the'board during its process of manufacture; Fig. 3 a
cross section of the board illustrating a step in the process or method of manufacture; Fig.4 a section on the line 44 of Fig. l
illustrating the completed boardand- Fig. 5
a section on the line 5-5 of Fig. 2.
Referring to the present embodiment of my invention as illustrated in the drawings, my board comprises the two facing strips 1, 1 and the two corrugated strips 2, 2 interposed between the facing strips. Each corrugated strip is secured by an adhesive to its facing strip and the opposing crowns of these corrugated strips are in contact with each other and are secured together by an adhesive indicated at 3. v
Describing my preferred method of making this new board, I take a sheet of sin le faced corrugated sired or suitable mensions and slit it in half by means of the slit indicatedat t in Fig. 2, withthe exception, of the highest.
portion of the crowns of these corrugations as indicated at 5. The. twohalf sheets or sections thus produced are then turned or reversed upon each other with the corrugations intermediate, the unslitted port ons Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed October 18, 1912. Serial No. 726,410.
"acting as hinges and (paper board of any e-' H Patented June 16, 1914.
also holding the two sections in proper relationship as shown in Fig. 3, with the result that when the two sections or sheets are completely brought together as seen'in Fig. 4 the crowns of the opposingv corrugations will be in contact with each other with accuracy along their entire length. .After the sheet has been slitted in the manner ex lained and before the two-sections, or hal sheets are folded machine of any Wellknown character for applying paste to the crowns of the corrugationsso that when thevtwo sections are folded together as already described the crowns which are in contact will be secured of single faced corrugated paper board which consists in applying an adhesive to the exposed crowns of the corrugations and then folding such board trans ersely at its middle and in a direction to bring said crowns into contact along their length.
2. The method of making double faced corrugated paper board which consists in slitting a sheet of single faced corrugated paper board except through the crowns thereof, applying an adhesive to such crowns, said slitting being in a direction transverse of the corrugations and then folding the two sheets upon each other upon the unsevered portions as hinges and bringing the sheets together with their crowns in contact.
3. Corrugated paper board comprising two sheets of coryugated paper superimposed with their crowns secured to each other along their length, said sections being integrally connected at one end.
4.-Corrugated paper board comprisin two sheets of corrugated paper superimpose tegrally connected at one end of said crowns.
'5. .A double faced corrugated apei' board comprising two facing str1ps an two i'nterposed corrugated strips secured to the facing facing strips and two interposed corrugated strips secured at one set of crowns to the 10 facing strips respectively and having their other set of crowns secured to each other and integrally connected together at one end.
