Description
@aient A' demise;
CHARLES F. LINSCOTT, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
Letters Piatent No. 109,915, deted December 6, 1870.
'IMPROVEMENT IN MlTER-BOXES.
` The Schedule referred to in' these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Figure 2 is :L vertical longitudinal section ot' the.;
Figure 3 is an end View, with one side removed; and
Figure 4 is an endv view 'of' a. ruiter-saw provided with guides.
Similar let-ters of reference in drawing indicate corresponding parts.
`.Lhe object of this invention is to provide au improved metallic ruiter-box andv t vruiter-saw, whereby v true niiters can always be sawed without possibility ot" injury to the ruiter-box or unter-saw by the latter comingin contact with the metal;`and to this end Ithe box to he made with the slots forthe saw-blade to be run in is smaller at the bottom of the box than :it the `top, the saw-blade having guides attached to its sides to tit into these slots ztbove the smallslots where the saw-blade runs, thus producing a true ruiter.
In 'the drawing- A is a rectangular metal box, havingl perpendicular slots B aud'C east in the same, the slot B being a 'true right angle, while the slots C C are :Lt ditierent angles. lhcse slots are made vso that the bottom is narrower than the top; in this narrow portion the blede ot' the sew is made to run.
I), the saw, hns upon each side of the blinde fastened, byrivetiug or otherwise, n`laterul strip, E, as shown in iig. 4, made ot' metal or wood. This strip E is made to tit into the upper or wider portion of the slots t'or `guiding`- the saw while cutting the miter.l
These vguide-pieces are of suiiicieut width to prevent the saw-teeth from coming ill contact with the bottom ofr the box, and by having the slots below brought upto :t square shoulder atthe point wherel they widen, end the saw-guides, coming down to these square Shoulders when in the operation of sawiug,are ofcourse arrested in their downward movement, and 'tl-le sawteeth prevented from touching the metallic bottoni ot' 1 the box.l v .'lh'e advantage to be derived by,my improvement iS thztt'a miter-box is produced by which e true ruiter is invriably cut, oud the ruiter-saw, by being provided with thc side guides, is prevented from any lateral movement, and by having the square shoulders iu theslots the saw is prevented from being injured .by coming incontaet with the box at the bottom.`-
I un aware that a unter-saw has been provided with guide-plates, :uidI donot,therefore, claim them;
' but What I do .claimas myinvention is- The metallic ruiter-box constructed, as described, with the guide-cuts or slots B and C, as herein stt forth :tud shown, for the purpose spceiied.
CHARLES F. LINSCOTI.
