Description

A. H. ADAMS. .RBTRAGTOR FOR PRINTING THLBGRAPHS.
APILZUATION FILED FBB.12. 1912.
Patented June 2, M914.,
for preventing'the rotation of said shaft, release means therefor, stops for arresting said shaft in any position, and means operable to rotate the shaft in a direction contrary to its normal direction of rotation.
' 2. In a device ol' the character described, a rotatable shaft, holding means for preventing rotation of the shaft, means for releasing the holding means, retractive means for rotating the shaft in a direction contrary to its normal direction of rotation, selective means for stopping the shaft at any desired point, the'selective means released by the retractive means the holding means stopping the shaft .,beyon the point at which the shaft was stopped by the selective means, whereby the shaft makes a complete or nearly complete revolution before it can be stopped again at the saine point by the selective means.
3. In a device of the character described, a rotatable shaft, a ratchet and an arm attached thereto, a holding paivl engaging said ratchet for preventing rotation of the shaft, an electromagnet for releasing the pawl, an electromagnetically operated retractii'e paivl engaging said ratchet for rotatino' the sha-ft in a direction contrary to the normal direction of rotation of the shaft, a plurality of armature levers adapted to engage the arm for selectively stopping the shaft at any desired point, the armatures released by the action of the retracting pawl, the holding pawl stopping the shaft beyond the point at Which the shaft was stopped by a raised armature end, whereby the shaft Vmakes a complete or nearly complete revolu- Leashes tion before it can be stopped again by the same armature end.
4. In a device of the character described, a rotatable type drum shaft, a ratchet and a radial arm attached thereto, a holding pawl normally engaging said ratchet, an electromagnet for opera-ting said paivl to release the shaft, a retractor device consisting of an electromagnetically operated pan'l noun-ally disengaged from the ratchetbut when operated rotating the ratchet and the shaft in a direction opposite the normal direction of rotation of said shaft,- a plurality of armature bars radially disposed to the shaft, their inner ends adapted to be raised, independent means for raising the inner ends of said armature bars into the path of the radial arm, the shaft free to rotate when released until stopped by the radial arm coming into Contact with a raised armature end, the armature end released and allowed to drop into its normal position by the action of the rctractor device, the holding pawl permit ting the shaft to rotate into normal direction suilieiently for the radial arm to pass beyond the .now normal armature, whereby the shaft makes a complete or nearly coniplete reiY lution before it can be stopped again by the same armature.
In Witness whereof, I, hereunto subscribe my name this ninth day of Feb. A. D. 1912.
' ARTHUR Hb ADAMS.
