7 WILLIAM A. NOBLE AND ALONZO L. PHILLIPS, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
KNOCKDO WN TELEPHONE SHELF OR- STAND.
Patented May 19, 1914..
1913. Serial No. 769,555.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that'we, WILLmM A. NOBLE and ALONZO L. PHILLIPS, citizens of the United States, residing at Detroit, county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented-a certain new and useful Improvement in Knockdown Telephone Shelves or Stands, and declare the following to be a full, clear,
a and exact description of the same, such as will enable othersskilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, refer ence being had to the accompanying drawings, which form apart of this specification.
Our invention relates to a knockdown telephone shelf or stand, shown in the accompanying drawings and more particularly set forth in the following specification and claims.
The object of our invention. is to provide a simple and inexpensive knockdown shelf or stand for-telephone or other uses, preferably constructed of sheet metal, which may be readily attached to a wall, desk, or other convenient support and which inits knockdown condition may be packed in a relatively small carton for selling or shipping purposes. These and other advantages will hereafter appear.
In the drawings accompanying this specification: Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device when assembled. Fig. 2 is .a perspective view'of the back plate. 3 is a perspective view of the wire bracket upon which the shelf rests. Fig. 4: is a sectional view through-the shelf and one pair of the fingers. integral therewith serving to secure the shelf to the wire bracket, the other pair of fingers (projecting in the opposite direction) beingindicated in elevation beyond.
Referring now to the letters of reference I placed upon the drawings: A is a plate perforated at a, a, .for the passageof screws by means of which it is attached to a wall a, a, are channel groovesstruck up fromthe body of the plate to receive the ends 6 of the sup porting bracket B.
a is'a hook prQ ecting from the lower end of the plate-A to receive and support the lower horizontal end b'of the bracket. This hook also provides a' convenient means for suspending atelephone directory C, as indicated in Fig. 1.
D is a circular shelf of suitable size to re- .ceive the base of the telephone (not shown) Fig.
. and is provided with an up-standing flange d to protect the telephone from accidental dislodgment.
d, a7, are a pair of fingers struck from the body portion of the shelf engaging the upper horizontal portions of .thebracket B; and d d are a similar pair of fingers l3; the fingers of each pair, however, proect 1n opposite directions to prevent lateral displacement of the shelf. It will be noted that the wire bracket is spread somewhat farther apart beneath the shelf in order to provide adequate support for the latter, the tension of the wire against the fingers serving to insure the shelf against lateral play when the parts are assembled.
Having indicated the several parts by reference letters, the construction of the device and manner of employing the same will be readily understood.
"It will be obvious that the several parts may be readily assembled, and in a knock: down condition they may be packed in a or shipment.
we claim is 1. In a device of the character described, a shelf having fingers inte ral therewith to engage a supporting wire racket, thefwire bracket bent to form two substantially triangular-shaped members spaced apart, a plate adapted to be engaged to a suitable support having a pair of channels struck up from the body thereof to receive the ends of the supporting bracket, and a hook beneath said channel portions to receive the'lower end of said bracket.
2. In a device of the character described, a shelf having fingers integral therewith whereby it may be engaged-to a supporting bracket, the bracket bent toform two substantially triangular-shaped members spaced apart and having a horizontal portion connecting said triangular members, a plate in line therewith also engaging the bracket small carton in convenient form for sale Having thus described our invention, what adapted for engagement to a suitable suport having a pair of channels struck u from the body thereof to receive the on s of the supporting bracket, and a book beneath said channel portions to receive and bracket.
