Bnoous, of Waterbury, in the county of New Haven and State-0f Connecticut, have inyented a new Improvement in Ilatc- Lifter; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with thc accompanying drawing and the letters ot' reference,l marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description ot' the same, and which said drawing constitutes partot this specification, and represents, in

Figure 1, a. top view, and in Figure 2, a side View;

It consists in an instrument provided with three hooks, two of which aire elastic to adjust to diiieiint size plates, and so that the three hooks may grasp the plate 'at three different points. A

I form. my lifter, by preterence, of a single piece of wire, bending first one end to form the hook' a, then from the hook, extending outsuiiicient distance`fo1 ahandle, and ceiling the wire to form a spring, b, then returning inward, and doubling the wire to forni a central arm, c, bending down to form the second hook d, the wire returning coiled again to form a spring, o, corresponding to the spring b, thence forward again to the third hook f.

then', pressing the hooks together, they firmly grasp the plate at these points so iirnily that it may be lifted without the necessity of touching theplate with the hand. i

It desired to turn the plate, the person grasps the plate in the same manner, and turns lit in either direction, loosening and regrasping the plate to turn it to anyA extent desired.

'hile I prefer to forni the lifter from a single piece of wire, it may he formed from diiierent pieces', united together, it being oniy necessary that the springs for the outside hooks be provided iu substantially the same manner. l
