Be it. known that I, JOHN W` MCGILL, of't-he cit-y :unl county ofsi'ashingion, in the District ofOolnmrba, have invented n new and useful Improvement iu the Construction and Manufacture of Hats und Caps; :infiel fin-hereby dec-lare' the"bllowingtube'l and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying dran-ing making part of this` specilioation and to the letters and figures marked tiierenin My invention relates to the manufacture of hats and caps, and consists in making the lower portion of the crown and outer portion of the brim ot' tbe same ot a material similar to the rest of the hat, but of a. diiibrent color or colors, or shade oi' color, whether by coloring the material before it is worked into th'e hat,-
or after the hat or cap has been made.
The object ot' my invention is to give to hats and cups, without binding and bands, all the finished appearance 'possessed by the same when4 bound and banded with silk, ribbon, 86e., thereby obvintin'g the expense ot' the saine, and making the hat much lighter.
