A. HUMBERT.
Watch Key.
No. l 09.620. Patented Nov. 29, 1870.
.FHERS. PNDTO L!THOQRAPNER, WASHINGTON. D C.
taco sate em (tffitt ALFRED HUMBERT, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO HIMSELF AND GUSTAVUS GIGOB, SA'MEPLAOE.
Letters Patent No. 109,620, dated November 29, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN COMBINING KEYS WITH WATCHES.
The Schedule referred toln these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
Oase and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which are sectional views of a watch-caseand-its pendant, and showing the combined watch-key and pusher, and to the letters of reference markedt-hereon making part of this specification. g
A is a watch-case, the pendant B of which has a round opening formed centrally through it, into which takes the combined pusher and key 0.
A groove, 1), is formed in the opening of the pendant. In this case it commences at'the bottom of the said opening or hole, and-extends lon-gitudinally to about the center of the pendant. It then winds spirally around, making a one-half turn of the circumference of the opening or hole, which brings it to the top. It then extends for a short distance toward its beginning, or the front 'of the pendant, parallel to the longitudinal part of it, at the bottom of the opening.
The body 0 of the pusher, which fits snugly the opening in the pendant, hasa lug or projection, (I,
either formed or fi'xed'to it.
The body 0 and the key-e, as shown, are of two diameters, the key being the lesser but in case the body and the key should be of one and the same diameter, the lug 41 may be formed or fixed to either the body or the key, as convenience or fancy may dictate.
To insert the pusher in the pendant, take its head,
f, between the thumb, and forefinger, and insert the key-end into the hole or central opening in the pondant, taking care that the lug 11 takes into the groove 1); then pass the pusher into the opening, its lug (l following the sinuosities of the groove 1), until the end of the key comes in contact with the main-spring h 'of the watch-case, which it forces back until the lug reaches the top of the groove, when the pressure is rcmovedfronrthc pusher, and the spring It acts by forcing the pusher back, the lug d moving along the return longitudinal portion 1 of the groove and locking against the end of the groove, where it is held firmly in place, and can only be removed but by reversing the process by which it waseu'tered.
The pusher of a watch-case is used for pushing back the main-spring of a hunting-watch case, or any watch-case in which springs are used for opening the backs, and, as is clearly shown, the main-spring h in this instance prevents the combined pusher and key from slipping out of the pendant.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The lug (Lin combination with a groove formed in the pendant B, and the spring 7:, as shown and described.
ln testimony whereof, I hereunto sign my name to this specification in presence of two'subscribing witnesses. I
ALFRED HUMBERT,
Witnesses FRANCIS I). Pastronrus, W. W. DOUGHERTY.
