Description

tintin/ll ttttar OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
Letters Patent No. 109,605, dated November 29, 1870.
IMPROVEMENT IN LOG-.GUIDES FOR CIRCULAR-SAW MILLS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it may. concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN Frr'rs, of Toledo, in
the county ot' Lucas and' State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Log-Guide for Oircular-Saw Mills ;v and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others. skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this specification. This invention relates to a new and useful improvement in a device for governing the set of logsA in circular-saw mills, by means of which a uniform thickness in the boards sawed is insured; and it consists in the combination and arrangement of parts constructed and-operating as hereinafter more fully described. v
In the accompanying drawing- Figure `l is a top View of the guide.
Figure 2 is a side View.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the stock, which may be made of either wood or metal, and of suitable length andrdimensions to allow a proper adjustment of the stop. 4
B is a slotted plate, made adjustable on the stock (longitudinally) by means of the slots C C.
Dis a lever having its fulcrum at the point E, and attached to the, plate at the point F, by means of which the plate is moved back and forth as far as the slots will allow. A rack and pinion, or screw, may be employed for this purpose it desired.
G isa stop, which tits and slidesy through a square orifice in the collarH of the plate B.
J is a bar attached to the lower 'e'nd of the stop G, which bar may work over a fnlcrum, as indicated in dotted lines at K, for raising the stop, either by hand or foot-power.
A spring or other device may be employed to hohl the bar and stop in place while a log is being sawed.
L is a plate, graduated or marked oI' into inches and fractions ot' an inch, and attached to the stock A.
M is a pointer attached to the plate B, by means of which Vthe movement of the slide and stop is governed, as is also the thickness of the boards sawed.
The stock is rigidly attached to the-saw-frame, and the stop is adjusted so as to govern the movement ot' the log as the log is moved up to the saw for eacl board. i
\Vh`en the stop is thus set, the plate is held in place by the screw-bolt and lever-nut seen at N. hen i-t is not necessary to use the stop it is allowed to drop,
by raising the lever J ,so that it is entirely out of the way.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- A4 log-guide for circular-saw mills, formed by the combination witIrt-he stock A, sliding slotted plate B, lever D having its fulcrum at E, the pointer M and index-plate L, of the stop G and lever J, all vsaid parts being constructed and relatively arranged as shown and described. c
