WATER BATH AND STEBILIZER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, GEORGE H. VVAHMANN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Baltimore, in the State of Maryland, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Water Baths and Sterilizers, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to improvements in water baths and sterilizers, and has for its object to provide a constant supply of steam from a small body of water automatically kept ata constant level, thus requiring but a comparatively small amount of gas to keep the water boiling thereby producing a great saving in the amount of gas used.

)1 further object of the invention is to provide a water receptacle so constructed and arranged that in the event of the same being burned out, it can readily be replaced at comparatively little cost.

The invention consists of the novel construction and arrangement of the parts and combination of parts hereinafter more fully set forth in the following specifications and pointed out in detail in the claim.

In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section of Fig. 1.

Referring to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, and in which like reference numerals designate like parts throughout the several views thereof, 1 designates the body of the bath or sterilizer, which is provided with a number of holes 2 in the top thereof, and a bottom 3 which inclines downwardly from the outer edge of said body to the opening 4; in the center thereof. Around the lower outer edge of the opening at is soldered, or otherwise secured, a metal ring 5 having its lower edge screwthreaded. Tie water cup 6 is provided with an annular flange 7 around its upper edge and is held up in position by the coupling ring 8 which latter is screwed upon the ring 5. A gasket 9 is provided between the flange 7 and the ring 5 to form a water tight joint. The said body 1 is supported on the stand 10. The water cup 6 is connected by a pipe 11 to a constant level tank or reservoir 12, the latter being supplied by a constant flow of water through Specification of Letters Iatent.

the pipe 13, from any suitable source of supply, and through the pipe 14. This tank or reservoir 12 is provided with an adjustable overflow pipe 15 projecting through the bottom of said tank or reservoir and having a piece of rubber tubing 16 surrounding the said pipe 15 and the-lower end of the reservoir 12 to form a water-tight joint and to hold the pipe 15 in the desired position.

The cup 6 being filled to the desired depth with water, the latter is heated by a gas burner, such as the usual Bunsen burner, placed under the said cup 6. The steam is generated and passes up against the vials, bottles, or other vessels resting over the holes 2 and containing the matter to be treated or objects to be sterilized. The water of condensation falls to the slanting bottom 3 and flows back to the cup 6. The water in cup 6 is kept at a constant level by the water flowing through the pipe 11 from the tank or reservoir 12, into which latter there is a constant flow through the pipes 13 and 14.

It will be seen from the foregoing that a constant supply of steam is maintained from a comparatively small body of water automatically kept at. a constant level, thus requirin but one burner and consuming a comparatively small amount of gas. It will also be seen that should the watercup 6 be burned out it can readily be replaced at a comparatively small cost.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is:

A water bath and sterilizer, comprising a body having one or more holes in the top thereof and an inclined bottom having an opening therein, a metal ring secured to said bottom around said opening, a cup having an inlet and a flange around its upper end, and a metal ring screw-threaded upon said first mentioned ring to hold said cup in position.
