ALEXANDER MILLER, OF MOBILE, ALABAMA.
FOLDAIBLE STEP-LADDER AND IRONING-TABLE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALEXANDER MILLER, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Mobile, in the county of Mobile and State of Alabama, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Foldable Step-Ladders and Ironing-Tables, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in foldable step ladder and ironing table.
The primary object of the invention is the provision of a structure especially designed for house-hold use and foldable into a com pact body which may be easily and quickly unfolded to either the form of a step ladder or an ironing board.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a combined foldable step ladder and ironing table in which the longitudinal brace and one end support of the ironing board are adapted for use as the stepped portion of a step ladder while the board and opposite end supports thereof constitute the upright prop of the assembled ladder.
A still further object of the device is the provision of hinged ladders hooked together in longitudinal alinement and a two-part prop having its separate parts hinged and hooked together and with said compound ladder prop hinged and hooked together in the form of a step ladder, all capable of being folded and then re-assembled as an ironing board or table.
lVith these general objects in view and others that will appear as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter more fully described and then claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings by like characters throughout the several views and wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the device assembled as an ironing board. Fig. 2 is a side view partially broken away of the same, in its folded condition. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of the device assembled as a step ladder and illustrated in an upright position. Fig. 4 is a detail view of the lower prop portion of the step ladder as seen from the inner side thereof, and, Fig. 5 is a rear view of the upper portion of the step ladder shown in Fig. 3. 7
Referring more in detail to the drawings, it will be seen that the ironing table structure illustrated in Fig. 1 consists primarily Specification of Letters Patent.

of the board 10 having the head support 11 and foot support 12 hinged for mounting the same horizontally while the ladder sec tion forming a brace13 hinged to the foot support by the members 14 is latched to the head support. 11 by means of the sliding pins 15 which are journaled upon the lower round 16 of said support, and project through perforations 16 in the side members thereof, which round is provided with opposite projecting ends 17 for seating thereon the notches 18 adjacent the ends of each side member of the brace.
The board '10 it will be noted, is hinged by the rod 19 to the cross piece 20 of the foot support 12 while hinged link members 21 are secured at both sides of the table between the brace and footsupport for retaining said members rigidly positioned Whenthe table is set up, in which function the hook 22 also assists, being pivoted to the outside of one of the side members of the head support 11 and adapted to engage the ring 23 upon a side member of the brace 13 as plainly shown in the drawings. Upon unlatching the hook 22 and releasing the sliding pins 15, the brace 13 is removed from the round ends 17 and whereupon the members 21 being folded up, the brace is brought into alinement with the foot support 12 and retained in that position by means of the latch 24 so that both 13 and 12 form a continuous ladder with a plurality of equally-spaced steps 25 provided employing the crosspiece 20 as the top step thereof and which will constitute the platform at the top of the step ladder as shown in Fig. 3. The head support 11 being hinged at 11 to the board is folded thereagainst and retained by means of the board carried hook 26 engaging over said upper round 23 of the head support. The board and head support thereby form the rear prop for the step ladder for supporting the continuous ladder, and these members are maintained in their fixed positions by means of the hook 27 pivoted to the ladder section 13 and engaging within the' ring 28 upon the under face of the board 10.
When it is desired by the housekeeper to store the device, the same is folded from either its ironing table or step ladder form in the manner shown in Fig. 2, and at which time the hook 27 is disengaged from the ri or 28 and the prop and ladder members folded together, while thehook 22 is engaged with the pin 29 upon the inner surface of the lad-- der side for retaining the same in folded form.
While the forms of the invention herein shown and described are what are believed to be preferable embodiments of the invention, it is nevertheless to be understood that minor changes may be made in the form, proportion and details of construction, without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention.
What is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent of the United. States is 1. A device of the class described comprising a main board, a head support pivoted thereto and adapted for positioning in substantial alinement therewith, a latch carried by said board for retaining said head support in alinement therewith, a small board section hinged to the main board section, a
foot support rigid with said small board section, a brace member hinged to said foot support, a hoolr for maintaining said brace and foot support in substantial alinement, and uniformly spaced cross members upon said brace and foot support.
2. As an article of manufacture, a combined ironing table and step ladder, comprising hinged boards, a head support pivoted to one of said boards and adapted for alinement therewith, a foot support rigid with the other of said boards, a brace pivoted to said foot support and adapted for alinement therewith, and uniformly spaced cross members carried by said brace and foot support.
3. As an article of manufacture, a combined ironing table and step ladder, comprising a small board member, a foot support, and a brace secured to said board memher and adaptable for use when in alinement with each other as a ladder, a large board member hinged to said small board member and adapted for alinement therewith, and a head support hinged to said larger board member and adapted for alinement therewith forming a step ladder prop.
In testimony whereof I afliX my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ALEXANDER MILLER.
