UNITED STATES PATENT o FIoE.
' WILHELM 'RESCH, OF BINNINGEN, SWITZERLAND.
APPARATUS FOR DYEING, BLEACHIN-G, OR TREATING WITH FLUIDS AND CENTRI- FUGING TEXTILE AND OTHER MATERIALS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Apr. 28, 1914.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, W1LHELM REsoH, dyer, a citizen of the Swiss Republic, residvented certain new and useful improvements in or relating to apparatus for dyeing, bleaching, or treating with fluids and centrifuging textile and other materials; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to apparatus for.
dyeing, bleaching or otherwise treating with fluids and centrifuging textile and other materials of the type in which a vacuum can be produced in the inner space of the casing during the centrifugingi One construction of apparatus is illustrated by way of example in the accompanying drawing in which,
Figure 1 is a sectional elevation, and Fig. 2 a horizontal cross section.
The compartments-or boxes 1 in which the material to be treated is closely, packed, are introduced from above into the drum (1- through a charging opening formed in one side of the cover d. In order to reduce the amount of liquid employed, the clearance spaces in the drum between the boxes I are filled as far as possible by water-tight hollow bodies is. The drum a is mounted on a vertical spindle 0 supported in the casing m of the machine and in the cover (if. The dyeing, bleaching, washing or the like of material, such, for example, as spools, bobbins, or cops of thread or yarn is effected in the following manner :After the boxes Z have been packed full with the material to be treated by means of some separate pressure apparatus, they are introduced into the drum a and firmly pressed by means of screws e outward against the wall of the drum. The centrifugal drum (1 with its con, tents is raised, for instance by means of a liquid under pressure acting on the lower end it of the spindle, and in that way the upper edge of the drum is pressed against the packing b on the cover at of the casing, so that two closed chambers will be produced in the casing. To insure the drum being pressed firmly upward, separately adjustable pressure screws z' are provided. The pressure screws 0 can be either operated ing at Binningen, Switzerland, have in- Application filed August 20, 1912. Serial No. 716,031.
singly, or mechanically connected together,
to enable them all to be simultaneously ad justed.
The lateral wall of the drum a within the packing chamber f as Well as the circumferential walls of the boxes Z, are perforated like a sieve. Special importance is attached to the provision of an absolutely tight "joint by means of the frame f, between the outer space and the inner space, so that any dyeing, bleachingor washing liquid, air, gases. or the like, introduced into the outer or into the inner chamber, can pass into the boxes Z only through the perforated walls, and further through the material they contain or vice versa, before being able to pass into the other chamber. sures the most thorough impregnation possible of the fibers of the material and at the same time results in the expulsion ofair from the material as the air contained therein is forced out. Similarly air and gas of any kind may be forced through the material in either direction, for instance, for the purpose of oxidizing. The surplus liquid adhering to thethreads or fibers can also be carried away to a great extent by means of the air passing through them.
Even where there is a considerable excess of pressure, the liquids,'gases or the like must always pass exclusively through the tightly packed material as the packing rings prevent it from passing outside the material to be dyed.
After the dyeing, bleaching or like process is finished, the pressure screws 71 are loosened, and the drum a lowered, whereupon the centrifuging of'the material under treatment can be effected in a well known manner'by means of a belt drive on the vertical spindle. If it is necessary to effect the centrifuging of the dyed material in a vacuum, as for instance in the case of sulfur dyes, this is effected by the dye and the gases or the like contained being pumped, by means of an This arrangement inefiicient pump 9, out of the closed casing.
' drum ther ein having perforate wall sections,
- drum having perforate end sect-ions, means forholding said boxes in the drum With the perforate ends thereof registering with the perforate Wall sections of the drum, and
means for circulating fluid through the boxes and casing in either direction.
3. Apparatus for dyeing, bleaching and the like, comprising a closed casing, a rotary drum-therein having perforate wall sections, removable boxes having perforate ends disposed adjacent the perforate wall sections in fluid tight engagement therewith, means for effecting a fluid tight joint between the upper part of the drum and the casing, and means for circulating fluid through the boxes and casing in either direction.
In testimony whereof I have afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
