Letters Patent No. 109,459, 'dated November 22, 187i).
IMPROVEMENT iN FURNITUREfKNoBs.
The Schedule refexed to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same'.
To all 'whom it may concern .t
Be it known that I, J ons* H. Silectron; of Waterbury, New Haven county, Connecticut, have invented, made, and applied to use certain improvements in the Construction of Knobs for Attachment to Articles of Furniture; and that thefoll/owing is a full, clear, and `correct description of niy invention, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making apart ot this specification, and 'to the, letters oi' reference marked thereon, iuwhich- Figure l is a view of the socket employed bynie.
Figure 2 is a-view of the' knob-spindle and threaded rod.
Figure 3 is a vicw ot' xny improved knob complete, with its auxiliaries.
In the drawing like parts of the invehtiouare indicated by the same letters of reference.
The nature ofthe present invention consists in the construction, as more fully hereinaftcnset forth, of knobs to be' attached to articles of furniture, and will be found to relatel more particularly to knobs so constructed that, when not in use, they may he turned down from a horizontal position into a Vertical or nearly-verticalposition, the object of the invention bel ing the production of a superior article Aof furnitureknobs at low cost.
Y To enable those skilled in the arts toinake and use my invention, I will describe the sanie.
'A shows the socket to receive thethreaded roll and thc knob-spindle. y
rl`his socket A may be -rnadeof brass or any suitable metal, and the metal used in forming the saine is continued in the manufactures() as to-forni4 behind the socket the disk B.
Upon the rear ofthe disk B is secured, in any convenient way, about centrallyl'the ueekG.
This neck is inade true on all sides, and after it has hecnralxed to the disk B, an opening is inade thrcu gh the rear end of the socket and the neck, to allow the threaded rod j) to be passed through the same.
D is a threaded rod, made of any suitable length,l and provided with the slotted head d, to receive a portion of the bam-shaped end 'of the knob-spindle E, which end, having been inserted `wit-hin'v'the slotted i hea-d d, is pinned therein.
, 1G shows the knob-spindle, provided, as already.
inode of attach-l neck C to enter and lill the same is made in the drawer .l
of the bureau or table to which the knob is to be atf t-ached.
The neck 'thenA is inserted therein, the threaded'rod i to which is connected the kpob -spindle is passed through the socket, the head upon the rod filling the socket, while a nut, G, is screwed over the threaded portion of the rod, and firmly holds the knob to the drawer of the table er bureau.
As the knob-spindle isfree toI turn in the head d, the knob and its spindle can be depressed, and occupy a vertical or nearly-vertical position when not iu use, and when in use can be elevated and occupy a horizontal position.
The metal portions of the Ainvention may be ornaf; ,inentedto any extent, thus giving a higlily-nished appearance to the article-f Having thus set forthfrny invention, What l' claim as new is rihe combination, with the socket A of the threaded rod D, hinged to knob-spindle E, and knob F, whenv` the same shall be constructed substantially asaud for the purposes'set forth.
