Description

,anni @fait HENRY RAY DEXTER, OE PUTNAM, CONNECTICUT.
Letters Patent No. 109,395, dated November 22, 1870.
IMPRQVEMENT IN WINDOW-SCREEN FRAMES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom tt may concern Figure l is a detail side view ol' my iinprort-d trame.
Figure 2 is a detail edge view ot' the same.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts.
My invention ,has for its object to furnish nn improved traine for screens for windows, doors, and other openings, which shall be simple in construction, inexpensive in manufacture, easily secured in place, and, at the same time, so constructed that it may be easily adjusted to various-sized windows, t-hns enabling the purchaser to readily adjust -them in place without its being necessary to employ a mechanic to iit them to their places; and
1t consists in the adjustable frame, constructed `as hereinafter more fully described.
The frame is formed of four parts orpieces, A, each of which is heilt at right angles, the arms being,r made longer or shorter, according; to t-he ordinary size ot' the openings for-which the screen is intended.
One' of the arlns of .each piece A is made straight, and the other arm is made with an oti'set or shoulder, to receive the straight arm ot' the adjacent piece, as shown in figs. l and 2.
The overlapped ends of the adjacent pieces A are secured to each other by clamping-screws B, which pass through slots in one of the said overlapped ends ot' said pieces, and screw into screw-holes formed in the other of' said ends.
The connection between the overlapped ends ot'the said pieces A may be further strengthened by gnide pins or projections attached to one of said ends and passing through theslot in the other end, as shown in fig. l.
This construction enables the frame to be'readiy adjusted to windows ot different sizes, or to windows which may be somewhat untrue in their angles.
Around the inner edges of the pieces A are formed holes, as shown in tie. 1, for the convenient attachment of the wire gauze or other screen.
When the frame is used for a window, upon its side edges are formed, or to them are attached, lugs a', to receive the screws by 'which it is secured to the. casnig.
When the frame is used for a door-way, the lugs-'a' may be replaced by or formed into hinges upon one side of the frame, and omitted from the other side, or replaced or changedinto bolts, latches, or other fastening, as may bc desired or convenient.
lfllavingiihus described my invention,
I claim as new and desire togsecurc by Letters latent- .Lhe improved window-screen franieherein described, consisting of the four parts or Vpieces A,provided with the lugsaf, and each having one of its ends slotted and shaped to overlap the straight end of the adjacent piece, to which it is scoured by acla-mp-scrcw, B, all as shown and described.
HENRY RAY DEXTER.
