COMBINED TELEPHONE-MOUTHPIECE Jl ,ooasos.
' Application filed March 14,
To all whom 1'2. may concern Be it known that T, Clmnnns Boss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, county of (look, State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful I m-- provements in Combined T8l81)l'l0ll-l\l()lli.llpiece Guards and Advertising Devices,.of which the. following is a specification.
My invention relates to telephone transmitter 1noutl1piece guards and to means for Among the principal objects of my invention are the following: to provide an improved guard for telephone transmitters and to provide improved means for operating and supporting the same; to provide an improved guard of the above character adapted for advertising purposes and to provide details of improvement tending to increase the efficiency and serviceability of a guard of the above'character.
To accomplish the foregoing and other useful ends my invention relates to means hereinafter set forth and claimed.
In the accon'ipanying drawing Figure 1 is a side view of the guard, the telephone mouth-piece being shown merely dotted; Fig. 2 is a front View of the same, and Fig. 3 is a side view of the device with the guard lowered.
The guard, as indicated, comprises a frame A and a lid B. The frame is made in a single piece of suitable material T shaped. This piece is curved to fit the neck of the mouth-piece, as shown, and the ends a and b are bent, as indicated, to form two approximately parallel sections. These ends are pierced to receive a bolt 0 clamping the same in position through the medium of the nut f. The. other arm 9 of the frameis curved to fit the mouth-piece in a longitudinal direction, and the end thereof is curved to fit the rim of the mouth-piece, as shown. Pro jecting from the arm 9 there are two lugs, which are folded upwardly, as indicated, to receive the hinge of the lid B. This lid'is composed of a circular section j and a sup'- porting arm is. The circular section j 1s made in two circular parts I and m, suitably clamped or glued together. Between sald plates Z and on there are held the heads of a pin and a bolt 77, and 0, respectively. The. shanks of these devices it and 0 protrude through suitable perforations in the plate m and are received in suitable apertures on Specification ofLetters Patent.

out (1, the lid B is clamped in position and prevented from turning by the pin a. The flange 7) curves back beyond the pin 0, as
shown, and acts as a finger guard or catch to assist in lowering the lid B without snapping it down when the latter is unlatched. The lower end of the flange is folded over around the pivot pin 1", the extreme end of which terminates in an arm a extending toward the rear, as shown. This arm 8 is adapted to engage the latch 25, which holds the lid B in position, as shown in Fig. 1. The latch t is pivoted between two additional lugs u, which support the pin 1-. The lid B may he unlatched from the position indicated in Fig. 1 by pressing the latch t;
It may then be rotated by the pin 1', thus clearing the arm 8. The two plates which form'the lid B may be of any suitable material and is made plaimas indicated, for advertising purposes. Similarly, the back of the lid is made plain to also receive adver tising matter on either side of the member Z \Vith the above device anyone who is holding telephonic communication with another arty may close the lid and yet hea what t e other party is saying without himself being heard if he wishes to speak to someone else nearby.
It will be understood that the latch 15 may be made of any desired height, as for example, of a height to clear the front wall of the transmitter.
What I claim as my invention is: v
1. A telephonemouth-piece guard having a body with means for clamping the guard to the mouth-piece and a lid suitably hinged. on said body. said body consisting of a single T-shaped piece one arm of which is folded to conform with the neck of the mouthpiece and the other arm folded to conform with the flaring curve of the mouthpiece and approximately at right angles to the first arm, and a latch also supporting on said body for latching the lid when raised.
2. A telephone mouth-piece guard having for latching the lid when raised, the hinge of said lid consisting of a single piece having means near-its center for supporting the lid and having one end folded to receive the hinged pin of the lid, and forming also a latch engaging member, the other end of said piece bent to form a finger guard.
3. A telephone mouth-piece guard having a body with means for clamping the guard to the mouth-piece and a lid suitably hinged said body on said body, said body consisting of a sin gle T-shaped piece, one arm of which is folded to conform with the neck of the mouthpiece and the other arm folded to conform with the flaring curve of the mouth-piece and approximately at right angles to the first arm, and a latch also supporting on said body for latching the lid when raised, the hinge of said lid consisting of a single piece having means near its center for supporting the lid and havin one end folded to receive the hinged pin 0 the lid, and forming also a latch engaging member, the other end of said piece bent to form a finger guard, the body having, integral with it one setibf flanges for supporting the lid hinged pin and another set supporting the latch hinged pm. I
Signed by me at Chicago, Cook county, Illinois, this 11 day of March, 1913.
