To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM FORBES M11.- LER, a subject of the King of Great Britain, of the city of Toronto, in the county of York, in the Province of Ontario, Canada, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Globe-Manipulators, of. which the following is the specification.
My invention relates to improvements in electric light bulb inserters and extractors, and the object of the invention is to provide means whereby bulbs of this class may be easily inserted or extracted, by a person standing on the ground, from sockets located in high positions, and therefore not easily accessible, and it consists essentially of an elevating pole, a tubular socket carried by the upper end of the pole, gripping aws carried by the socket and co-acting therewith to grip the bulb, and means for rotating the socket and opening and closing the aws, operated from the lower end of the pole, as hereinafter more particularly explained by the following specification.

A is a pole preferably tubular and of any suitable length, the upper end being formed into standards A.
A is a slot extending through the pole for a purpose which will hereinafter appear.
B is a tubular member formed at its lower end into lugs B extending into the standards A and through which from the standards A extends a pivoted pin B B is a vertical slot formed in the tubular portion B at one side of'its lower end. The upper end of the tubular portion is provided with an annular flange B Y B is an annular, horizontal flange secured to the portion B intermediately of its height.
C is a sleeve loosely mounted on the member B between the flanges B and B.
G is a socket tube secured by screws G to the rotatable portion C. The upper end of the socket tube C is flared at G the liared portion being provided with a thin rubber covering G for a purpose which will hereinafter appear. The tubular socket C is also provided with vertical slot-s C G are arms extending radially outwardly from the tubular socket C, preferably three in number.

C are extension pieces extending from the jaws C through the slot G into the interior of the tubular socket C free of the interior periphery thereof. The jaws C are preferably tipped with rubber as shown at C.
E is a stem held vertically within the tubular portion B.
E is a cap portion secured to the stem and fitting within the tubular socket sleeve C.
F are diametrically opposite set bearing arms extending from and secured to the tubular portion B.
F is a supplemental bearing bracket secured to the arms F and provided with a depending U-shaped portion F between which is pivoted a lever F on a pin F extending through the lever and the bracket. The inner end of the lever F extends as clearly shown in Fig. 5 beneath the lower end of the stem E.
G is an arc-shaped barforming part of the tubular portion B and concentric with the center of the pin B The lower end of the arc-shaped bar Gr extends through the slots A Gr is a set screw extending through the tubular rod A against the bar Gr.
Iare spring fingers secured to the tubular socket C at their lower end and bearing at their upper end against the laterally extending pins 1 extending from the extension pieces of the jaws C.
J and J are cords secured to the tubular socket C so as to wrap around the same in opposite directions. The cords J and J extend through eyes F and F formed in the ends of the arms F and from these to the bottom of the pole A.
J is an operating cord secured to the end of the lever F Having described the principal parts involved in my invention 1 will briefly describe the operation of the same. When it sleeve Within said socket for opening said jaws and spring means for closing the jaws for the purpose described.
