To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, DENNIS I. HARTMANN, a c1t1zen of the United States, and a resident of the .city of New York, borough of Brook'- lyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Shaving and Lather Brush, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Thi s invention relates to toilet devices and has particular reference to combined mas- Sager and lather or shaving brush, the same including a handle, a set of bristles and a massager carried by the handle and located Within the mass of bristles, the arrangement being such that the bristles may be employed brought into use by a slightly greater pres r as usua-Lfor the application of soap to the beard and then for the massager to be sure upon the handle for the purpose of forming the lather directly upon the face and without requiring the operation of the fingers. a
The foregoing and other objects of the invention-will hereinafter be morefully de-. scribed and claimed and illustrated in the drawings forming a part of this-specification in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in both the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a vertical sectional view-of a preferred embodiment of the invention; and Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
The several parts of the device may be made of any uitable materials, and the relative sizes and proportions, as well as the general design of the mechanism, may be varied to a considerable extent without departing from the spirit of the invention hereinafter more fully set forth and specifically claimed. A device made in accordance with this invention includes a ferrule or thimble 10 having open upper and lower ends which are slightly smaller in diameter than the middle terior, preferably at the center, with a mas sager comprising a stem 14 and a body or head 15 'having a series or set of downwardly projecting fingers 16. Said head and fingers are preferablyv arranged well within the bristles so that the brush may be used for the application of soap and water without bringing the massager into operation. By applying pressure, however, to the handle the bristles will flatten out so as to permit the headand fingers to be brought into use for the purpose of forming the lather and softening the beard. The
upper ends 17 of the bristles surround the upper end'l l' of the stem, and having been impregnated with any suitable cement 18, form a mass or clump of material which is inserted into the smooth tapered end 12 of the thimble to any desired extent. After this has been done, more cement is poured into the upper end of the thimble covering the ends'of the bristles and stem in a substantial manner and to any desired depth. Subsequently, the handle 18 having a threaded hub 19 is screwed snugly into the threaded end of' the thimble making a solid and strong closure for the device.
Having'thus described my invention, I claim. as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent The herein described brush comprising a thimble having an internal thread at one end and a smooth internally tapered surface at'the other end, the middle portion of the thimble being larger in diameter than said ends, a mass of bristles,a' massager carried withinthe mass of bristles and including a stem extending with the bristles into said thimble at one end and having at its other end a head with a series of projecting finers, a handle having threaded engagement in the threaded end of the thimble, and binding material filling the mass of bristles within the thimble an surrounding the upper end of said stem, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
