COMMUNION-SERVIC-E FILLER.

To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, Don R. DIX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salt Lake City, in the county of Salt Lake and State of Utah, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Communion-Service Fillers, of which the following is a specification.

My invention relates to communion service devices used in church and ritualistic work of any kind wherein the cups used in such work must be handled in large numbers in order that they may be rapidly passed to the cmnmunicants; and has for its object to provide an improved filler, for the cups used by the communicants, by means of which the said cups may be equally and readily filled with the liquid. In the device illustrated in the accompanying drawings similar letters of reference indicate like parts throughout the several figures, and as described in the specification forming a part of this application and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.

Figure 1 is a plan view of the assembled device in position to receive the liquid. Fig. 2 is an end. view of the same with filler shown in tilted position in dotted lines. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section of the filler on line g y of Fig. 1.

In communion services held in churches to commemorate the Lords Supper, it is desir able and necessary in order to expedite the work, that the cups be equally and rapidly filled and passed. This may be satisfactorily carried out with my improved filler, and I have shown in the drawings the preferred form of construction, and embodied therein the essential features of my device. lVithin a tray or base 2 are provided circular openings to receive and hold upright the individual cups 16. A filler A, consisting of an open rectangular shaped box 7, preferably made of metal and having a portion of its bottom transversely grooved or formed into a plurality of transverse open topped channels 8, each of which is open at one end and partially closed at the other. are used to conduct a portion of the fluid from said box 7 to the first row of cups 16 and the longer ones are used to conduct other portions of said fluid into the cups in the next row. The side of said box 7 opposite said tubes 9 is outwardly flared, and that portion of the bottom adjacent said side is ungrooved or in a plane thus forming a longitudinal channel 10 contiguous with the unclosed ends and opening into each of said transverse channels 8. Liquid poured into said longitudinal channel 10 will flow into each and all of said transverse channels 8. On each end of said box 7 is provided a hook 11, and on the bottom of the said box are the supporting knobs 12. A finger lift 13 may be secured on the flared side of said box for convenience in tilting.

The use and operation of my device is as follows :-VVith the cups in place within said tray, the handle 14 is fastened in place by set screws 17. The filler A is then placed in position adjacent said tray by engaging the hooks 11 over the top edge of the end cups in the outer row, and with the other portions of the filler resting on the supporting knobs 12. A sufiicient quantity of a sacramental liquid to fill one half of the number of cups in said tray is then poured into said channel 10 of said box 7 and by raising the finger lift 13, the liquid is poured into said cups. The filler is then adjusted to the position to fill the other half of the cups in said rack by engaging said hooks in a similar way over the top edge of the end cups in the outer row on that side, and the operation of pouring the liquid is repeated to fill the other half of the cups. By the use of the filler A as partitioned and divided by the longitudinal channel 10 and transverse channels 8 each cup will receive its proportionate share of the liquid by each filling of said channels. The required amount of liquid needed in said filler to suiliciently fill one-half of said cups may be easily determined and in each tilting of the filler the entire liquid content is turned into the cups.

Having thus described my invention I desire to secure by Letters Patent and claim In a communion service filler, a receptacle having portions thereof adapted to be supported by two cups and having a longitudinal channel formed in a portion of its bottom and transverse channels contiguous to and opening into said longitudinal channel; open tubes leading from said transverse channels and attached to the side of said receptacle by means of which liquid may be poured into said cups when said receptacle is tilted above the level of said cups. 1
