TRAUGO' IT GOLDE, OF GERA, GERMANY, ASSIGNOR T0 GOLDE PATENT ZWL'AJNU'FAC TUBING COMPANY G. M. B. HL, 0F GERA, GERMANY.
'"INGED VEHICLE-HOOD.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, TRAUGOTT GOLDE,'a citizen of Germany, residing at Gera, in the Principality of Reuss, Younger Line,
have invented a new and Imfollowing is a specification. V
This invention relates to a hinged vehicle hood of novel construction, which may be readily manipulated and top when the latter is unfolded.
In the accompanying drawing: Figure 1 is a side View of a vehicle hood embodying my invention; Fig. 2 a side vie-w partly' folded and with the top omitted; Fig. 3 a similar side view completely folded; Fig. 1 a section on line H, Fig. 1, and Fig. 5 a perspective view of part of the front bow and adjoining parts.
The hood is shown to comprise a pair of back bows 10, 11' to the foremost bow '11 of which is pivoted at 12, a forwardly extending arm 13 to which, in turn is pivoted at 14 the outrigger how 15.
Fromthe inner side of arm 13, there depends a lug 16 pivoted at 17 to the reduced shank 18 of the front bow 1%). At its lower end, shank 18 is stepped as at-20. and the frce'end of this step is in turn bent sidewise .and upward to form ail-integral U-shaped bearing or keeper 21. To the outer face of step which is located in the same vertlcal plane as the outer face of lug 16, there is pivoted at 22, some distance back of keeper 21., one end of abrace 23, the other end of which is pivoted at 2.4 to bow 11, said brace occupying" substantially the same vertical plane as arm 13 (Fig. 4).
Specification of Letters Patent.
which insures an extremely firm and reliable support for the' The foldable top of the hood is sup- 4..
ported by the rear bows 10, 11, the front bow 19 and the outrigger how 15.
When the hood isunfolded (Fig.1) brace 23 forms a straight rearward continuation of how 19, its forward end overlying step 20 and being grasped by keeper 21. In this way, an extremely firm and reliable support for the front bow is obtained, so that the stability of the hood is insured. When the de-.
vice is being folded, the lower end of bow will release brace 23 (Fig. 2) and the latter parallelism with arm 13 (Fig. 3), the step in the front bow-shank permitting said front bow to:- be placed alongside arm 13 and brace 23. I claim:
A vehicle hood comprising a rear how, an
arm pivoted thereto, a lug depending from the arm, a front bow havlng a shank of re duced thickness which is pivoted to the lug and is provided with a step and a U-shaped bearing at such step, and a brace pivoted. to said rear bow and shank-step and occupying substantially the same vertical plane as the arm, said brace being adapted to engage the bearing when the hood is unfolded, the step in the shank permitting the front bow to be placed alongside the arm and brace when the hood is folded.
